Instructions
Documents required during Interview (for all visa class applicants):
1. Original passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended period of stay for travel to
the United States;
2. DS-160 Confirmation page. Visit the DS-160 web page for more information about the DS-160;
3. 01 recent 2 x 2inches photograph, colored, full-face view directly facing the camera taken
within last 06 months against a plain white/off white background. This web page has
information about the required photo format.
4. Original DS2019, I-20 or I797, if applicable
5. For C1/D, Seamen book valid for six months beyond your intended period of stay, an
Agreement for Employment on Ships and a No Objection Certificate from the Shipping Master.

Important instructions on DS-160 form for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicants
YOUR NIV APPOINTMENT WILL BE SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A
CURRENT, PROPERLY EXECUTED DS-160 COMPLETED PRIOR TO SCHEDULING YOUR
APPOINTMENT.
To reduce processing times and improve the customer experience on the date of your visa interview,
please ensure that your DS-160 application form is complete and submitted online no earlier than 12
months. The DS-160 form number (barcode number beginning with AA) must be included in your
profile and must match the DS-160 form number printed on your Appointment Confirmation Letter no
later than 72 hours before your appointment. If the DS-160 form number that you present on the day
of the interview does not match the DS-160 form number on your appointment letter, your
appointment may be cancelled, and you will not be permitted into the Embassy [Consulate] to
continue your application. If you are turned away, you will be required to make a new appointment.
Information for visa applicants regarding novel coronavirus:
All applicants are required to wear mask covering their mouth and nose at all times while in the
U.S. Embassy or Consulate;
All applicants must maintain a distance of at least 10 feet from other applicant groups;
Applicants will not be admitted into the Embassy or Consulate more than 15 minutes before
their scheduled appointment time;
Applicants should not wear latex gloves to the appointment;
If you have experienced flu-like symptoms or fever, or have been exposed to someone who
has during the previous 14 days, please reschedule your appointment for a date after 14 days
have passed.
Security Instructions:
You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy/Consulate while carrying any of the following items:
Mobile devices, Cell Phones, Tablets, Smart Watches, electronic access or keys with remotes
Battery-operated or electronic devices, or any photographic equipment
Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders
- you can only carry plastic folders containing application-related papers
Food and liquid items
Sealed envelopes or packages
Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
Weapons or explosive materials of any kind
Cosmetics (including but not limited to spray perfume/cologne and talcum/baby powder)
This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.
The Embassy/Consulate does not have any storage available for holding applicants’ cell phones or
any of the other above-listed prohibited items. Applicants should make arrangements to store these
items in their home, office, vehicle, or at the shuttle service stop before arriving at the
Embassy/Consulate. If you bring prohibited items with you to the Embassy/Consulate, you will be
returned to your vehicle or the shuttle stop to secure these items.
The U.S. Embassy is located in the Diplomatic Enclave. All applicants must take a shuttle from
3rd Avenue, Quaid-e-Azam University Road, Islamabad to the Embassy. “There is no parking
near the Embassy’s Consular section".
Accompanying Applicants to Interview:
Due to security considerations, there is no information window for walk-in visitors at the U.S. Embassy
in Islamabad or U.S. Consulate in Karachi. Only visa applicants with scheduled interviews will be
admitted. Any additional person accompanying the visa applicant will be denied entry, except in the
following situations:
One parent may optionally accompany minors less than 18 years old. One parent is required to
accompany children younger than 14 years.
Applicants with medical conditions or difficulty walking may bring one family member to assist.
There is no need to submit attendant requests in advance.
Premium (Home) Delivery Option: Applicants who are issued a U.S. visa may have their passport
delivered to their door step at a nominal fee. This fee is payable in cash at the time of delivery of your
passport to the Courier delivery staff. For more information about premium home delivery, please
contact the Call Center or click here.
Document Pick up: Documents and passports will be returned when the visa is issued. The visas may
take up to four weeks to process. Please check the status of your visa application from the below
mentioned link, before coming or contacting the call center for collections.
You can check your application status at [Link] and the
status will say ‘ISSUED’ when the visa is ready for collection.
Passport Collection Process:
Your appointment letter lists the pick-up location you chose when making the appointment. If your
visa is approved, you will receive an email when the passport is ready to be collected.
To collect your passport, you must bring:

Applicant's original government-issued photo ID with a photo copy
DS160 confirmation page or Appointment confirmation letter is preferred for speedy collection
of passport at the counter..
Representative collecting passport:
Photocopy of Applicant's government-issued photo ID.
Authorization letter from the applicant in original.
DS160 confirmation page or Appointment confirmation letter is preferred, for speedy collection
of passport at the counter.
Original government-issued photo ID of the authorized person with a copy

If Husband is collecting passport/document on behalf of wife or vice-versa please bring
relevant documents as listed in the table above. Authority letter signed by spouse applicant in
original is mandatory.
Children below 18 years of age will not be allowed to collect any/self-passport. An original letter
of authority signed by any one parent is mandatory if representative is collecting passport or
any one parent in person can collect a child passport with above required supporting
documents.

All returned documents will be sent to the address selected when you scheduled for the interview
appointment. If you select home or office delivery, someone must be present when the courier comes
to deliver your passport. For timely delivery of documents, please ensure that all data is entered
accurately.
Note: Please note that passports not collected within 14 calendar days from the document
delivery locations or within 10 calendar days from the TCS courier locations (if applicable) will
be RETURNED to the respective U.S. Embassy/Consulate, and applicants will need to pick up
