What's new
2: What's new
2.1. Updates to Sustainability data
Use updated sustainability data to carry out enhanced environmental assessment of materials and products, whilst
utilizing refinements to recycling attributes to assess the environmental footprint of your components and products
in the Eco Audit Tool.
2.1.1. Environmental data attribute updates
As part of a review of our sustainability data, there have been some updates to data values and attribute names,
including:
• CO2 footprint, primary production (virgin grade) - renamed to Climate change (CO2-eq), primary production (virgin
grade), and a reference data review
• CO2 footprint, primary production (typical grade) - renamed to Climate change (CO2-eq), primary production (typical
grade), and a reference data review
• Embodied energy, primary production (virgin grade) - reference data review
• Embodied energy, primary production (typical grade) - reference data review
The following attributes have been renamed, data values updated, and definitions modified, to align with shifts in
industry terminology:
Previous name New name Definition
Recycle Functional recycle Can be recycled into the same grade.
Downcycle Recycle New definition: Can be recycled in some way, shape or form, but
not necessarily into the same grade.
2.1.2. Updates to Eco Audit attributes and calculations
Calculations used by the Eco Audit tool have been updated to use the new sustainability attributes data values,
ensuring you have access to the latest data for recycled content and end of life potential of materials. Continue to
confidently assess the environmental footprint of your components and products using these updates.
As a result of the updates, some Eco Audit product files created in previous versions of the software may not be
compatible with the new definitions and calculations. To avoid any errors, certain data values will not be displayed
if older project files are opened in Granta Selector 2024 R1 - if affected you will be alerted in the software and directed
to an appropriate Help page for assistance in understanding the changes.

What's new
2.1.3. Export more data to Ansys Discovery
Material data export from MaterialUniverseTM to Ansys Discovery format has been updated for this release. Exported
material cards now include the following attributes:
• Embodied energy, primary production (typical grade)
• Climate change (CO2-eq), primary production (typical grade)
• Recycle
Ansys Discovery users can utilize this information to estimate the environmental footprint of their design, and
estimate what % of their design is made from recyclable material. Discovery users can also live monitor changes to
the overall material environment footprint as both part shape and selected material are updated.
