Words Are Powerful – Take Them Seriously
Lesson 11
God is looking for people who will live by faith—faith in God. Hebrews 11:6. Faith pleases God;
so, who are you trying to please?
I. Have Faith in God
A. Mark 11:22, KJV, “And Jesus answering saith unto them, ‘Have faith in God.’”
Jesus is not telling us to think about it. He’s telling us to grasp and practice this
lifestyle of faith. Aren’t you glad Jesus didn’t say, “Have faith in God, and lots of
luck, I hope you figure it out.”
B. Mark 11:23, KJV, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto
this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not
doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall
come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
Believe in your heart, and speak what you believe in your heart with your mouth.
Don’t just believe it in your heart, but also say what you believe with your own
mouth! Jesus did not say here, “You shall have whatsoever you believe.”
Notice also, Jesus did not say here that your faith will prevent all mountains, but that
faith would move all mountains. John [Link] “…you shall have tribulations,” so
have faith in God!
How? Speak to the storms, devils, diseases, and tribulations! This is what Jesus
taught by instruction and His life’s example. “Oh Pastor, I believe that’s just an
obscure isolated text. That’s not really what Jesus meant.”
C. Matthew 17:20, NKJV, “So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for
assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this
mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be
impossible for you.”
If you have faith…you will say…and nothing will be impossible for you!
D. Matthew 21:21, NKJV, “So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say
to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done
to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast
into the sea,’ it will be done.”
“If you have faith and do not doubt…if you say…it will be done.”
E. Luke 17:5-6, NKJV, “And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’
So the Lord said, If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this
mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it
would obey you.”
“If you have faith…you can say…and it would obey you.”
Obscure teaching? Out of context? You, as a believer, need to flow in this to fulfill
your call in life. This has to be in your toolbox!
Remember Jairus—“Fear not, believe only.” That’s your part; God’s part is to do
the supernatural. Your responsibility hooks up with God’s ability. You don’t have
to bring it to pass. God does that. But you do have to have faith in God! You are
the believer—God is the Performer.
II. Two Places
God’s Word is designed to be in two places—in your heart and in your mouth.
A. Psalm 91:2, KJV, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.”
Are you “saying” it? Not just believe it in your heart, but also say it with your own
mouth: “I will say of the Lord!”
1. Proverbs 10:11, NKJV, “The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but
violence covers the mouth of the wicked.”
Your mouth is the opening of the well. Fill your well with the Word of God,
and let the life of God flow out.
2. James 3:10-11, NKJV, “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and
cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring
send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?”
What things ought not to be so? Your mouth should not be sending out
blessing and cursing! From the opening of the well of your heart, the life and
blessing of God should flow out! Don’t let poison/bitterness get in your
body, wreck your marriage, ruin your kids, and destroy your future!
3. Proverbs 18:21, Ampl., “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].”
Your words will either complete your faith or defeat your faith. How very
important!
4. Proverbs 12:6, NAS, “The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but
the mouth of the upright will deliver them.”
Use your tongue to speak words of salvation, deliverance, healing, and life.
Use it for what it was made for—to bless and to glorify God!
Close: The devil can’t stop you, unless you yield your mouth to him. That’s good news! Think
about it—He could not stop your new birth from happening, so he can’t stop anything else when it
comes to God’s will for you.
