Session At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
Objectives: a. Define a Venn Diagram.
b. Use Venn Diagram to represent the union and intersection of sets.
c. Apply the use of Venn Diagram in real life situation.
Key Concepts: 1. Discuss the procedure of solving multiplication of polynomials.
2. Application of multiplying polynomials to real-life situation
using word problem.

C. VOCABULARY WORDS
“PASS THE CABBAGE WITH A TWIST”
1. "VENN DIAGRAM – a diagram that uses overlapping
circles or other shapes to illustrate the logical
relationships between two or more sets.
2. INTERSECTION - is the set of all those elements
which are common to both A and B.
3. ELEMENTS – is the objects in a set, also called as
MEMBERS.
4. Subset- is a set whose elements are all members of
another set.
5. UNION – is a set containing all elements that are in A
and B.
Concept 20 Three Circle Venn Diagrams can take a quite a bit of
Exploration minutes working out.
The steps to follow are generally these:
a. Get the information from the question that can go
straight onto the Venn Diagram and place it there.
b. Work through the remaining information, a bit at a
time, to work out each of the missing values.
c. Often we work from the center of the diagram
outwards, when finding these unknown values. (Work
from the Inside Out).
d. Check that all the numbers on the final diagram add
up to the universal set.
Read and analyze the word problem below and follow the
procedure of solving problem.
“HUMAN VENN DIAGRAM”
In a survey, 25 students were asked about their favorite
pet.
The results are as follows:
20 students like cats
18 students like dogs
15 students like rabbits
8 students like rabbit and cat
7 students like cats and dogs
6 students like rabbits and dogs
2 students like the 3 pets
Using Venn Diagram, determine the following:
The number of students who like cats only
The number of students who like dogs only
The number of students who like rabbit only
The number of students who prefer other pets.
