PREFACE
This Record of Alternative Dispute Resolution has been prepared as a part of the
Practical Training in the Fifth Semester of my 3-Year LLB (Unitary) Course.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) refers to a range of dispute settlement methods
which help the parties in the dispute to come to a settlement without going to Court, or
without litigating the said matter. These methods usually involve a third party, who helps
them in settling the disputes. In many cases, ADR methods are used alongside the
litigation process as well through Court authorisation.
The following are some of the wellknown ADR methods :
● Mediation,
● Arbitration,
● Conciliation and
● Negotiation.
To deal with the situation of pendency of cases in the Courts in India, ADR plays a
significant role by its diverse techniques. Alternative Dispute Resolution - mechanism
provides scientifically developed techniques to the Indian Judiciary which helps in
reducing the burden of the Courts.
The work done in the course of my preparation of this Record of Practical Training has
been valuable in my legal education.
I express my profound sense of gratitude to Adv. Ms. Shamili, Assistant Professor, Nehru
Academy of Law for the guidance in preparing this record.
