It is important to prepare ahead of time what health career will one
pursue. As you keep reading and pondering on this lesson, you can decide
the appropriate health path to take. Plan wisely and prepare smartly.
Let us study the factors to consider in choosing the appropriate health
career.
To choose the appropriate health career takes a thorough planning
and several factors to consider. What is your passion? No matter what
drives you, there is a role for you in the medical field. You may have
already considered being a nurse or a doctor. However, allied health care
offers another whole world of opportunity. For example, if cardiology
(heart health) is a cause that moves you, you could be a cardiologist, a
cardiovascular technician, a cardiac nurse, or cardiac perfusionist.
Things to consider when preparing for an appropriate health career:
Motivation to pursue – what are you hoping to gain? Is money
motivatingyou? If you are thinking about health care because of a family
member or friend, that is fine, as long as your goals and objectives are in
line with theirs.
Education and training – learn about the degrees, diplomas and training
required for various medical jobs. If you want to be a physician, make
sure you have 15 years to devote to school and training, skills and
strengths, role within the healthcare field, where to work, and impact to
the family.
Skills and strengths – each health care requires different skill sets and
personality traits. Most roles require excellent interpersonal and
communication skills, some level of technical or mathematic capacity and
a strong work ethic.
Role within the healthcare field – what is your passion? What drives
you? For example, if cardiology (heart health) is a cause that moves you,
you could be a cardiologist, a cardiovascular technician, a cardiac nurse,
or cardiac perfusionist.

Where to work – in which type of environment would be most
comfortable and most successful? This depends on the personality of a
person. He can’t be surgeon or hospital nurse, if he thinks the place is
cold and large, if he is easily depressed, then he may not work in a
hospice environment where patients spend their final days. If he does
not want to talk with people, he me be happier working in a lab or a
pathologist in a morgue.
Impact to the family – think of your life and your family who will be
impacted while you are in school, completing training and after you get
the job.
After you have prepared yourself on the appropriate health career, you
may now choose the right health career for you.
