Shaping The New Republic: Foreign Policy

There are two parts to this assignment. Be sure to complete both.

Part I: In this lesson, we learned about a variety of events impacting US


Foreign Policy. In this activity, categorize the people, places, and events
below into examples of foreign policy and then match the example of
foreign policy to its impact on US affairs. You will use each term/phrase
only once.

Part II: Pretend you are a settler living during the early federalist period.
Read the short scenario, and in one cohesive paragraph use ALL of the
terms in the word bank below to draft a journal entry from this person’s
perspective. Be on the lookout for some early American terms and slang
that you should include in your diary entry! Use the rubric to help guide
your thinking!

Scenario: You are a settler living in North Carolina, you own a small
business buying and selling goods, and depend on trading in order to
make a living. You have just learned of the conflicts occurring between
the US and Native Americans, and unrest between our nation, France,
and Great Britain. You are worried the tension between these groups of
people will disrupt your trade business and write a journal entry to
document your thoughts and feelings.
