Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation of Data
This chapter renders a presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data gathered in this study.
The analysis is done based on the data received from the students and interpreted to know the
effects of social media among grade 11 students.
Table 2 represents the demographic profile of the Grade 11 Senior High Students of Motiong
National High School.

Table 2.1 shows that 6 or 6% of the 100 respondents are ages 15 years old, and 60 or 60%
percent are 16 years old. 19 or 19% are 17 years old and 5 or 5% are 18 years old. The result
shows that most of the respondents age are within the bracket of 16-17 years old.

Table 2.2 presents the respondents’ frequency and percentage distribution regarding their sex.
Out of 100 respondents, 37 or 37% are male, 63 or 63% are female. The result shows that
most respondents were female.

Table 2.3 presents the respondents' frequency and percentage distribution regarding their
section. Out of 100 respondents 20 or 20% are from HUMSS section 1, 20 or 20% are from
HUMSS section 2, and another 20 or 20% are from ABM, 10 or 10% are from EIM section 1,
10 or 10% are from EIM section 2, 10 or 10% are from CSS and lastly 10 or 10% are from
COOKERY. The results show that most respondents were from ABM and HUMSS sections 1
and 2.

Table 3.1 shows all of the statements regarding the effect of “Social Media and Academic
Activities” to the academic performance among grade 11 students were interpreted as agree,
with a weighted mean of 3.66 with a margin of error ± 0.95 based on the calculated standard
deviation. The value of the weighted mean indicates that the respondents generally believed
that effect “Social Media and Academic Activities” has a significant effect on their academic
performance. The highest average was “I always multitask between social media and
academic tasks” interpreted as agree. This explains that most of the Grade 11 students
balance their time between using social media and doing their academic tasks, which is
challenging since they’re splitting their time between two activities at once.

Table 3.2 shows all of the statements regarding the effect or “Impact on study habits” on the
academic performance among grade 11 students were interpreted as agree, with a weighted
mean 6.63 with a margin of error ±0.65 based on the calculated standard deviation. The value
of the weighted mean indicates that respondents generally believe that the effect or “Impact
on study habits” has a significant effect on their academic performance. The highest average
mean was 3.87, in the statement “Social media has a big impact on setting my academic
goals,” interpreted as agree. This explains that most grade 11 students are influence by the
social media in a positive way.

Table 3.3 shows all of the statements regarding the effect or “Time management and
productivity” on the academic performance among grade 11 students were interpreted as
agree, with a weighted mean 3.53 with a margin of error ±0.84 based on the calculated
standard deviation. The value of the weighted mean indicates that respondents generally
believe that the effect or “Time management and productivity” has a significant effect on
their academic performance. The highest average mean was 3.62, in the statement “I always
spent 1-3 hours using social media in school” interpreted as agree. This explains that most
grade 11 students are using social media during school hours with time limits which is also
part of their time management.

Table 3.4 shows all of the statements regarding the effect or “Distractions that Affect the
Academic Performance” among grade 11 students were interpreted as neutral, with a
weighted mean 3.29 with a margin of error ±0.90 based on the calculated standard deviation.
The value of the weighted mean indicates that respondents generally believe that the effect or
“Distractions that Affect the Academic Performance” has a significant effect on their
academic performance. The highest average mean was 3.35, in the statement “I always find
myself procrastinating on my academic tasks due to social media use” was interpreted as
neutral. This explains that students were neutral about using social media first before doing
their academic task, that’s why they’re procrastinating in a specific way, social media
distracts some of the grade 11 students.

Table 3.5 shows all of the statements regarding the effect or “Social Media & Academic
Performance” among grade 11 students were interpreted as agree, with a weighted mean 3.84
with a margin of error ±0.77 based on the calculated standard deviation. The value of the
weighted mean indicates that respondents generally believe that “Social Media & Academic
Performance” has a significant effect on their academic performance. The highest average
mean was 3.95, in the statement “Social media enhances my ability to collaborate and
participate in academic discussions.” was interpreted as agree. This explains that most of the
grade 11 students had a positive effect on using social media for academic endeavors. It
enhances their capability in collaborating with academic task inside the class.
