CPU and System Unit
Computer casing with all the components installed inside it is called system unit or
main unit of the computer. Usually people incorrectly use the word CPU for system
unit.
System units are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. The case of the system
unit is made of metal or plastic and protects the internal electronic components
from damage.
CPU and System Unit
Microprocessor is the CPU of the computer system that is installed on the
motherboard whereas system unit contains motherboard, hard disk, DVD writer,
RAM etc.
The central processing unit (CPU), interprets and carries out the basic instructions
that operate a computer.
System Unit and microprocessor are shown in image below.

Exploring the System Unit
System Unit contains the following components.
• Casing
• Power supply
• Mother board
Computer casing
Computer casing is a box or enclouser that contains most of the components
of computer system. Computer casings are
Of two types, tower and desktop. Tower casing is the most commonly used
one. Desktop casing designed to keep on the
Desk and usually monitor is kept over it.
Power Supply
The purpose of power supply in a computer is to convert alternating current(AC) to
low-voltage direct current (DC) for Operation of components of the computer.

Power Supply
A computer supply is already fixed in the casing when it is purchased.
When the computer is turned on the power supply allows converted electricity to
travel to other components inside the computer.
Motherboard
It is also known as main board. It is a circuit board that connects all the components
of the computer system through ports, cables or expansion slots.
