Overview of Serious Medical Conditions

Cancer, heart disease, and lung disease are among the conditions described in the document. Cancer is uncontrolled cell growth that can kill healthy cells. Heart conditions include issues with arteries like blockages and valve problems, as well as diseases of the heart muscle. Lung diseases encompass problems like pulmonary embolisms which are blood clots in the lungs. Other conditions mentioned include kidney failure, liver disease, neurological disorders, infections, and injuries.

1.

Cancer a serious disease that is caused when cells in the body

grow in a way that is uncontrolled and not normal, killing normal
cells and ofte.

2.Angioplasty is a non-surgical procedure, which opens blocked

coronary arteries and restores blood flow to the heart.

3.Pulmonary embolism is a blockage in one of

the pulmonary arteries in your lungs. In most cases, pulmonary
embolism is caused by blood clots that travel to the lungs from the
legs or, rarely, other parts of the body (deep vein thrombosis).

4.Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) is high blood

pressure in the lungs. It is also known as
idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. It's a rare lung
disorder in which the blood vessels in the lungs narrow and the
pressure in the pulmonary artery rises far above normal levels.

5.Infective endocarditis (IE) is defined as an infection of the

endocardial surface of the heart which may include one or more
heart valves, the mural endocardium, or a septal defect.

6.Heart / Organ Transplant - Organ transplantation is a medical

procedure in which an organ is removed from one body and placed
in the body of a recipient, to replace a damaged or missing organ.

7.Heart valve replacement -Aortic valve replacement is a

procedure in which a patient's failing aortic valve is replaced with
an artificial heart valve. The aortic valve can be affected by a
range of diseases; the valve can either become leaky
(aortic insufficiency) or partially blocked (aortic stenosis)
8.Surgery of Aorta -Open aortic surgery ("OAS", also known as
Open aortic repair, "OAR") describes a technique whereby an
abdominal or retro peritoneal surgical incision is used to visualize
and control the aorta for purposes of treatment

9.Cardiomyopathy - chronic disease of the heart muscle.

10.Surgery for cardiac arrhythmia -One type of surgery for atrial

fibrillation is called "maze"surgery. In this operation,
the surgeon makes small cuts or burns in the atria that prevent the
spread of disorganized electrical signals. If coronary heart disease
is causing arrhythmia, coronary artery bypass grafting may be
recommended.

11.Balloon valvotomy / valvuloplasty- - A balloon valvotomy is the

preferred treatment for mitral valve stenosis . It is a procedure that
widens the mitral valve so that blood flows more easily through the
heart. ... When the tube reaches the narrowed mitral valve,
a balloon device located on the tip of the catheter is quickly
inflated.

12.Coronary artery bypass surgery-is a type of surgery that

improves blood flow to the heart. Surgeons use CABG to treat
people who have severe coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a
disease in which a waxy substance called plaque (plak) builds up
inside the coronary arteries.

13.Carotid artery surgery -Carotid artery surgery is a procedure

to restore proper blood flow to the brain. The carotid artery brings
needed blood to your brain and face. You have one of
these arteries on each side of your neck. ... This can reduce the
blood supply to your brain and cause a stroke.
14.Pericardiectomy - is the surgical removal of part or most of the
pericardium. This operation is most commonly done to relieve
constrictive pericarditis or to remove a pericardium that is calcified
and fibrous.

15.Ventricular assist total artificial hearts -Mechanical

circulatory support, including the total artificial heart (TAH) and its
more widely used counterpart the left ventricular assist device
(LVAD), has a vital and expanding role in the care of patients with
end-stage heart failure. Worldwide, the prevalence of heart failure
is increasing.

16.Myocardial infarction - Heart Attack

17.Implantation of pacemaker in heart - A pacemaker is a small

device that's placed in the chest or abdomen to help control
abnormal heart rhythms. This device uses low-energy electrical
pulses to prompt the heartto beat at a normal rate. ... Doctors also
treat arrhythmias with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)
18.Implantable cardioverter defibrillator - ICDs are useful in
preventing sudden death in patients with known, sustained
ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation. ... An ICD is a
battery-powered device placed under the skin that keeps track of
your heart rate.

19.Multiple sclerosis - a chronic, typically progressive disease

involving damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and
spinal cord, whose symptoms may include numbness, impairment
of speech and of muscular coordination, blurred vision, and severe
fatigue.

20.End stage renal failure -Kidney failure, also called end-stage renal
disease(ESRD), is the last stage of chronic kidney disease. When
your kidneys fail, it means they have stopped working well enough for you to
survive without dialysis or a kidney transplant.
21.Benign brain tumor-Most benign brain tumors are found by CT or
MRI brain scans. These tumors usually grow slowly, do not invade
surrounding tissues or spread to other organs, and often have a border or
edge that can be seen on CT scans. These tumors rarely develop into
metastatic (cancerous or spreading) tumors

22.Parkinson’s disease- a chronic progressive neurological disease

chiefly of later life that is linked to decreased dopamine production in the
substantia nigra and is marked especially by tremor of resting muscles, rigidity,
slowness of movement, impaired balance, and a shuffling gait.

23.Alzheimer's disease -Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder in

which the death of brain cells causes memory loss and cognitive decline

24.End stage liver disease -Chronic liver failure, also called end-stage
liver disease, progresses over months, years, or decades. ... Patients with
abnormal liver function who develop ascites, variceal hemorrhage, hepatic
encephalopathy, or renal impairment are considered to have end-stage liver
disease (ESLD)

25.Motor neuron disorder -Motor neuron diseases are a group of

conditions that cause the nerves in the spine and brain to progressively lose
function. They are a rare but serious and incurable form of progressive neuro
degeneration.

26.End stage lung disease - (ESLD) or end stage pulmonary

disease (ESPD) is theend result of chronic progressive lung diseases like
COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, or systemic progressive diseases that
affect the lungs such as cystic fibrosis or granulomatosis with polyangiitis

27.Bacterial Meningitis -Bacterial meningitis is the most serious type

ofmeningitis. It can lead to death or permanent disability. It is a medical
emergency. Meningitis affects the meninges, the membranes that surround
the brain and spinal cord and protect the central nervous system (CNS),
together with the cerebrospinal fluid.
28.Aplastic Anemia - deficiency of all types of blood cell caused by failure
of bone marrow development.

29.Blindness - Medical Definition of Blindness. Blindness: Loss of useful

sight. ... Damage to any portion of the eye, the optic nerve, or the area of the
brain responsible for vision can lead to blindness. There are numerous
(actually, innumerable) causes of blindness.

30.Stroke - A stroke is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the

brain results in cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due
to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding.

31.Paralysis -Paralysis is a loss of muscle function for one or more

muscles. Paralysis can be accompanied by a loss of feeling (sensory loss) in
the affected area if there is sensory damage as well as motor

32.Major Burns - A major burn is defined as a burn covering 25% or

more of total body surface area, but any injury over more than 10% should be
treated similarly. Rapid assessment is vital.
