P = 200 x 103 N/mm2 is applied as shown in fig. Do the following.

Q. 3 a) Explain Constant Strain Triangle.
b) Derive the shape functions for constant strain triangle.
c) List down and briefly explain the elements for two dimensional elements

d) Discuss what is Plane stress and Plane strain conditions with example.
e) Explain why a Linear Triangular element is called a Constant strain
Triangle.
f) Find the shape functions of CST shown in the figure below. Find the
temperature at (2, 2) if the nodal temperatures T1, T2 and T3 are 20OC ,
100OC and 150OC respectively.
g) Evaluate the shape function N1, N2 and N3 at the interior point P for the
triangular element shown in the figure.
h) The nodal co-ordinates of a triangular element are as shown in fig. The
‘x’ co-ordinate of interior point P is 3.3 and shape function N 1 = 0.3.
Determine N2, N3 and ‘Y’ co-ordinates of P.
i) The triangular element has nodal co-ordinates (10, 10), (40, 20) and
(30, 50) for nodes 1, 2 and 3 respectively. For a point P inside the
triangle, determine X and Y co-ordinates if shape functions N1 and N2
are 0.15 0.25 respectively.
j) Find the shape function for the triangular element shown in fig. and
show that the sum of all shape functions is ONE at any point within
the element.

Q. 4 a) Define axisymmetric elements with examples.
b) Explain axisymmetric elements.
c) Give the applications of axisymmetric elements.

f) Explain how an axisymmetric triangular element is different than a
CST.
g) A long cylinder of 100 mm internal diameter and 130 mm external
diameter is subjected to hot fluid at 200oC from inside and ambient
conditions on outside. Draw the sketch showing actual problem and
also model the problem for a sample length of 10 mm using
axisymmetric element with proper boundary conditions.
h) A long cylinder of 80 mm internal diameter and 120 mm external
diameter snugly fits in a hole over its full length. The cylinder is then
subjected to an internal pressure of 2 MPa. Draw the sketch showing
actual problem and also model the problem for a sample length of 10
mm using two axisymmetric triangular elements with proper forces
and boundary conditions. Also show the element connectivity table
and coordinates of all nodes.
i) A long cylinder of 150 mm internal diameter and 200 mm external
diameter is subjected to hot fluid at 100oC from inside and ambient
conditions on outside. Draw the sketch showing actual problem and
also model the problem for a sample length of 10 mm using
axisymmetric element with proper boundary conditions.
j) A long cylinder of 100 mm internal diameter and 160 mm external
diameter snugly fits in a hole over its full length. The cylinder is then
subjected to an internal pressure of 3 MPa. Draw the sketch showing
actual problem and also model the problem for a sample length of 10
mm using two axisymmetric triangular elements with proper forces
and boundary conditions. Also show the element connectivity table
and coordinates of all nodes.

h) Analyse the following truss completely for Stress and Strains.
The cross sectional area of each member of truss is 100 mm2.
Modulus of elasticity, E =200 GPa for each element. Lengths are in
mm.
i) A two member truss is shown in fig. The c/s of each member is 200
mm2 and the modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa. Determine the deflection,
reaction and stresses in each of the member. Lengths are in mm.
j) Analyse the following truss completely for Stress and Strains.
The cross sectional area of each member of truss is 150 mm2.

f) A composite wall consisting of three materials as shown in figure. The
outer temperature is 40oC. Convection heat transfer takes place on the
inner surface of the wall with T∞ = 500oC and h = 25 W/ m2 oC.
Determine the temperature distribution in the wall.

Larer-2 Fibre glass K2= 0.0332 w/mo c, & x2 = 5cm
Layer-3 Gypsum K3= 0.05 w/mo c, & x3 =1 cm

heat flow.

h = 25 W/ m2 oC. Calculate temperature distribution in the wall.
