HUMAN RESOURCES
Human Resources (HR) plays a pivotal role in the organizational landscape, serving
as the backbone for the effective management and development of an organization’s
most valuable asset – its people. In essence, HR is a multifaceted function that
encompasses various activities related to recruitment, talent management, employee
relations, training and development and overall workforce strategy.
The primary objective of HR is to optimize the potential of the workforce, ensuring
alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives. This involves attracting,
selecting, and retaining the right talent, as well as fostering a positive and inclusive
workplace culture. HR professionals act as strategic partners, working closely with
leadership to align human capital with the overall business strategy.
2
HR teams undertake various responsibilities in an organization, they
are:
• Recognize current and future hiring needs.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and governmental labour rules and regulations.
• Attract, recruit, and retain talent.
• Manage compensation and employee benefits.
• Ensure effective employee relations.
• Manage onboarding, training, and learning and development processes to boost
performance.
• Apply health and safety measures.
• Handle administrative tasks, such as payroll and taxes.
• Organize and oversee quarterly or annual performance reviews.
3
Human Resource Planning: Human resource planning is the process by which members
of the HR department identify current and future hiring or training needs. The purpose of human
resource planning is to make sure that a business has the right type of talent spread throughout
its departments.
Administration: HR's next function is administrative responsibility. Personnel policies and
procedures, as well as Human Resource Information Systems, are examples of this. Personnel
procedures address issues such as promotions, resettlement, sanctions, performance
improvement, sickness, regulations, cultural and ethnic diversity, unwelcome intimacy, and
bullying. Each of these scenarios requires the development and implementation of policies and
processes to properly comply with the demands or overcome the obstacles.
4
Recruitment and Selection: The second HR function is to recruit and choose the best
individuals for the company. Attracting new employees often begins with developing an
employee brand. Being an appealing employer offers several benefits, just as the reverse is true.
The tobacco business is an excellent illustration of the latter since it struggles to recruit talent
owing to its tarnished image.
Performance Management: Performance management is critical to ensure that employees
are both active and motivated at work. Supervision, defined objectives, and honest feedback are
all necessary components of effective performance management.
Training and Development: Training and development in Human Resource Management
(HRM) refers to a system of educating employees within a company. It includes various tools,
instructions, and activities designed to improve employee performance. It's an opportunity for
employees to increase their knowledge and upgrade their skills.
Career Planning: HR management is also responsible for providing workers with career
advice and development as part of its fourth function, which is career planning. Employees are
more likely to stay with a firm if they see how their goals connect with the company's long-term
vision. A strong employer brand, better succession planning, and more productive employees are
all advantages for the company.
Health and Safety: Health and safety laws set forth by government agencies should be
followed by all employers without exception. Our labor laws require that all employers provide
the necessary training, supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and information to
guarantee the safety of employees. Making these safety requirements a part of everyday business
operations is an important role of human resources management.

An HR internship is a valuable opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on
experience in the field of Human Resources, offering exposure to diverse aspects of
HR functions. Throughout the internship, we typically engage in activities that span
the entire employee life cycle. One key area often explored is recruitment and
staffing, where we assist in posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting
interviews, and participating in the decision-making process for new hires.
In addition to recruitment, we often play a role in employee on-boarding, assisting in
the preparation of orientation materials, conducting orientation sessions, and helping
new employees integrate into the organization seamlessly. This exposure allows

employee experience.

internships. we assist in coordinating training programs, contributing to the
enhancement of employee skills and knowledge. This involvement not only broadens
their understanding of professional development but also underscores the importance
of continuous learning within organizations.
9
Employee relations is a critical dimension explored during an HR internship,
involving activities such as addressing employee inquiries, managing concerns, and
participating in conflict resolution processes. This hands-on experience fosters a
deeper understanding of the interpersonal dynamics within the workplace and the
role of HR in maintaining positive employee relations.
We also gain insights into HR policy and compliance matters, familiarizing
themselves with organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements. This
exposure helps interns understand the significance of adherence to regulations and
ethical standards in HR practices.
Performance management is another area where we may actively participate. This
involves involvement in performance review processes, goal-setting activities, and
understanding the mechanisms for evaluating and enhancing employee performance.
HR interns often engage in data analysis and reporting activities using HR software
to evaluate employee metrics, turnover rates, and other key performance indicators.
This analytical aspect of the internship contributes to developing skills in using data
to inform HR decision-making.
The internship also encompasses general HR administration tasks, including
maintaining employee records, updating databases, and handling documentation.
This provides interns with a comprehensive view of the administrative
responsibilities inherent in HR roles.
Furthermore, we interns have been involved in employee engagement activities, such
as organizing events or surveys to gauge employee satisfaction and foster a positive
workplace culture. Building professional networks within the HR department and
across other organizational units is emphasized, recognizing the importance of
networking in HR roles.
