Transformer Hand Notes For Electrical Machine

A transformer works by electromagnetic induction to increase or decrease alternating current voltages. It has two coils, a primary coil and secondary coil, wound around an iron core. When alternating current flows through the primary coil, it produces an alternating magnetic field that induces voltage in the secondary coil. The main components of a transformer are the core, which is usually made of silicon steel, the primary and secondary coils wound around the core, and a casing to contain the coils and core. Transformers come in different types depending on cooling method and application. The voltage ratio of a transformer depends on the turn ratio of the primary and secondary coils according to the transformer equation. Transformer ratings are typically given in kVA to account for both voltage
