A student John performed the following experiment to determine the relative atomic mass of
magnesium.
Step 1: 0.900 g of magnesium were added to 100.0 cm3 of 1.00 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid.
Step 2: The resulting solution was then diluted to 250.0 cm3 with distilled water.
Step 3: 25.0 cm3 of the diluted solution were titrated with 0.125 mol dm-3 sodium hydroxide
solution using phenolphthalein as indicator. 20.8 cm3 of sodium hydroxide solution were
needed to reach the end point.
