Improving Everlane's Work Culture

This case study examines issues at Everlane including a weak corporate culture that led to accusations of racism and harassment. Two solutions are proposed: 1) anonymous employee surveys to address concerns, and 2) mandatory anti-discrimination training for all employees. The recommendation is that Everlane implement the second solution through anti-bias training for all workers and managers to directly tackle the root causes of its toxic workplace culture.

EVERLANE Case Study

Problem statement:

The root cause of Everlane's poisonous work environment is a weak corporate and

management culture. As a result, Everlane staff has been accused of racism and

harassment. Employees are unable to express their experiences of racism,

discrimination, and harassment at work.

Facts:

 The Covid 19 epidemic is expected to cost the company $15 million in earnings.

 Due to the pandemic in March 2020, we had to lay off approximately 200 staff.

 Customer service workers who were about to unionize had their jobs cut by 42 out of

57. allegations of anti-blackness and union antipathy

Analysis/Discussion

It is Everlane's mission to restore the faith of all of its workers in the company's internal

culture.

Solution 1:

Employees should be able to anonymously raise any complaints or concerns they may

have with their employer via surveys. Fill out an anonymous form on the company's

employee website with questions regarding their employment, the environment in

which it is situated and any troubles they may be having there. At the conclusion of

each month, the firm will have meetings to address the most pressing concerns.

Benefits: These provide an avenue for workers who are reluctant to speak with

management about their issues. Employees will get the impression that the firm cares

about what they have to say and is willing to hear it.

Disadvantage: This chance may be squandered if employees fail to take advantage of

it. Because it doesn't address the root cause of the issue, some workers may see it as a

Band-Aid solution.

Solution 2:

Anti-discrimination and anti-bullying training for all workers and management should

be mandatory. Every office and factory will have computer terminals set up so that

workers may take the training while they are working. If an employee refuses to take

part, their employment may be terminated.

Benefits: It shows that Everlane is serious about having zero tolerance for racism or

discrimination in its workplace. Everlane's terrible company culture and hostile working

environment will be addressed.

Disadvantage:

Setup and implementation will require a significant amount of time. Employees may not

take training seriously if they rush through it.

Recommendation:

Everlane should choose solution #2 since it is the most effective solution. It tackles the

root of the problem and will lead to a better working environment for workers in the

future.
