CONCEPT
Basically, a C-Arm X-Ray Fluoroscopy system consists of a continuous X-ray
generator, an image intensifier tube, a camera to capture the video output and a
monitor to display the video in real time. A foot switch is used to switch on/off the
X-ray. During an operation, X-rays are passed through the required part of the
patient body and the corresponding images seen on the monitor. However, when
the X-ray is switch off, the images are also gone. This is where XC-VGA comes into
use.
9
The video output of C-Arm image intensifier tube is captured by a camera and sent
to the memory unit, which, in turn stores the relevant images and displays the real
time as well as captured images on the monitors. A Control Input from the C-Arm X-
Ray unit is connected to XC-VGA to trigger the image capture process.
X-ray is switched On when the Control Input is activated. Live video is displayed
during this time. At the instant when the Control Input is deactivated, the last image
is captured and displayed on monitor. If required, this image can be saved to
memory for future reference. This avoids continuous exposure of the patient to X-
rays for prolonged periods during fluoroscopy examinations. Real time image
processing features include image rotation, different levels of temporal averaging,
contrast processing, 2x and 3x zoom, negative, mirror and flip functions. Built in
non-volatile memory allows to store hundreds of images. Images can be backed up
to USB flash drives also.
