The importance of the people's voice in elections

General Election or what is commonly referred to as Election is the process of choosing someone to fill a
certain political position. These positions vary, starting from the position of President/Executive,
People's Representative/Legislative at various levels of government. in every election all Indonesian
citizens who are inside or outside Indonesia are encouraged to exercise their right to vote, both to elect
candidates for members of the legislature as well as the President and Vice President. in Law Number 7
of 2017 concerning General Elections, Indonesian citizens in question are native Indonesian
people/nations and people of other nations who are legalized by law as citizens.

It is not enough for the sustainability of political processes to require only the active participation of
organizers, political contestants and the public. participation must be based on the intellect and
awareness of each subject in politics so that each participation is a positive contribution to the process
as well as the results of the election. this is considering that the 2024 Election is the umpteenth election,
in which the public and election participants have broader freedoms, opportunities and access
compared to the previous contests. greater opportunity to be elected, wider freedom to choose, as well
as easier and faster access to almost all practical political information and communication needs have
two tendencies that have a direct impact on the election process and results.

Expressing opinions and information is the right of every citizen. However, the community needs to sort
and choose, what opinions and which information should be received and need to be conveyed. It
should be realized that in every political campaign, especially in the digital era like today, it is very easy
for anyone to convey and receive political messages in any form. understanding of the main interests of
the people, their relation to the political messages conveyed, as well as the methods used in
campaigning are important to become a shared awareness. Program clashes and strategy battles always
exist in every political battle. although we still find it hard to believe in the absence of various violations
in elections, at least these two things can be used as a standard of attitude in politics. The community
must be able to measure and evaluate which programs are worthy of appreciation and which strategies
do not need to be addressed at all.

the increasing involvement of the community in the holding of general elections (elections), shows the
strengthening of the democratic order in a country. In a democracy, the involvement of the people in
every administration carried out by the state is a necessity (a necessity that cannot be avoided). the
people are a very important factor in a democratic order, because democracy is based on the logic of
agreement and the idea that government requires approval from those who are governed. For this
reason, holding elections as a means of carrying out democracy, of course, cannot be separated from
the involvement of the community (the theory that the state exists as a manifestation of God's will on
earth which is incarnated in the aspirations of the people). increasing public participation is very
important in the implementation of general elections in the process of selecting members of the
legislature and executive. because after all the community has a large enough share in the general
election process where the community as voters determines the winner in the general election process.
it is the responsibility of the government by involving stakeholders to try to increase the role of society
in elections as a process of democratization that has been running in Indonesia. that increasing public
participation in elections is not solely the responsibility of KPU administrators, but the role of political
parties is quite large, in addition to other stakeholders.

election results determine the future of the nation, therefore it is hoped that all citizens will have
