Nickel Chloride Analysis and Tests

1. A series of tests were performed on an unknown salt to identify its constituent ions. Preliminary tests indicated the presence of chloride (Cl-) and nickel (Ni2+) ions. 2. Confirmatory tests like the manganese dioxide test and silver nitrate test confirmed the presence of chloride ions. 3. Group separation tests and reactions with sodium hydroxide and dimethyl glyoxime confirmed the presence of nickel (Ni2+) ions from group IV. 4. Therefore, the unknown salt was identified as nickel chloride (NiCl2) based on the anion (Cl-) and cation (Ni2+) detected through the various chemical tests.
