IF CLAUSE (Condıtıonals) TYPE 3

GRAMMAR OVERVIEW

Function : We use "if clause type 3" to talk about unreal conditions in the [Link]'s not possible to
change the situation anymore.

Structure : If + Past Perfect , would have / could have / might have + Past Participle

Examples :

If I had studied hard enough for the exam , I would have got a better mark. (I got a bad mark in the

exam. If Susan had got the invitation , she might have come to the party. (She didn't get the

invitation.)

If my father had saved some more money , he could have bought that car. (He couldn't buy the car
because he didn't have enough money.)
