This Self Learning kit contains a lesson on words with consonant


blends. Reading exercises are provided for you to practice especially on
words with initial and final consonant blends.
It will help you develop your reading skills.

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:


1. recognize words with initial and final consonant blends;
2. be happy and thankful for everything God has given; and,
3. read words with initial and final consonant blends.

Directions: Look at the pictures below. Can you recognize them? Write the
letters in the blocks to form the name of the object.

What do we call the words that you have formed?
Correct! They are called consonant blends.

Consonant blends are two or more consonant sounds that


come together in a word. Their sounds blend together, but each
sound is heard.
Consonant blends can be found at the beginning of each word
and we call them initial consonant blends.
Examples:
globe swing blouse
gl, sw, and bl are examples of initial consonant blends.

Final consonant blends, on the other hand, are found at the


end of a word.
Examples:
mask girl gift
sk, rl, and ft are examples of final consonant blends.
