Three (3) technological developments or innovations not earlier than 2017 related to the agricultural
industry.
Rosphere
Developer:
It’s called “Rosphere,” and it is another robot made in Spain, this time
by the Robotics and Cybernetics Research Group at the Universidad
Politécnica de Madrid.
Features:
This hamster ball look-alike is built for collecting data on soil
composition, temperature, and moisture and plant health.
Researchers first used Rosphere to monitor rows of crops.
Decreased cost of production;
Information sharing between producers and consumers;
Improved supply chain;
Increased labor efficiency and decreased cost;
Reduced food wastage and increased yields;
Increased financial sustainability.
POSSIBLE IMPACT TO THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES:
Tests of Rosphere were conducted on a farm where it was put up against rough terrain
and different soils while testing for moisture and other environmental variables.
Afterwards, it was `tested at the Parque Del Retiro of Madrid to see if it could operate
safely with people. According to UPM, the results have so far been satisfactory.
The greatest transformative partnership in history may have involved technology and
agriculture. Agriculture is a sector that contributes significantly to a nation's
development and economic stability.
The agriculture sector's transformation from a simple job to a full-fledged high-tech
enterprise has changed the parameters of development, and the standards continue to
rise. Let's gain a thorough understanding of robotic agriculture and its effects.

AQUARIUS
Developer: It’s made by David Dorhout, an Iowa State University grad who now
works at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
Features:
Aquarius is a robot at the cutting edge of greenhouse
technology that dependably waters your plants accurately and
efficiently using its on-board 30 gallon tank and custom
technology.
Each plant is given exactly the right amount of water, but it
can just as easily be used in commercial greenhouses.
The true strength of Aquarius is in its simplicity of operation:
there’s only one switch, everything else is automatic.
POSSIBLE IMPACT TO THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES
To control the robot, you simply designate the route you want it to go, choose
the maximum amount of water you want it to provide a completely dry plant, and then release
it. Each plant can have its soil moisture measured by Aquarius so that it receives the precise
amount of water, or each plant can receive the same amount of water depending on a "sentry"
plant from the same cohort. Even when the robot is operating, anything can be adjusted at any
time, including the path and the placement of plants.
The core controller of Aquarius is a Propeller chip, which connects with a Propeller Servo
Controller to conduct a number of low-level operations while also keeping track of all the
sensors. Two US Digital optical encoders for monitoring and adjusting the wheel motors are
among the sensors that the main controller keeps track of, along with a custom 12-sensor array
for line tracking, two moisture sensors, and two water level sensors in the tank, collision
avoidance sensors, and a few others for automatic calibrations. This all enables the about 500 lb.
robot to swiftly and safely maneuver within the greenhouse room, even when climbing and
descending floor ridges and making abrupt curves.

AGROBOT: Farm Automation
Developer: Agrobot is a business that creates agricultural robots. In partnership with renowned
international producers, The Agrobot has successfully developed the first robot for delicately
harvesting strawberries, independent of where and how they are grown.
Features:
Robots interact with the outside environment, bringing about changes
through their deeds and responding to events as they happen, which is a
significant aspect of them.
Robots do useful tasks, expand human capacity, and reduce our risks when
working in hazardous environments.
The agrobot promises yields of unprecedented quality and effectiveness.
The acronym AGROBOT stands for Agricultural Robotics. A small sampling of
the numerous chores involved in agriculture include plow-ing, seed-sowing,
watering plants, cultivating crops, dousing plants with pesticides, and clipping
plants. We thus use an innovative approach to create this multifunctional
employment. The AGROBOT vehicle can be powered by an Android
smartphone that is online.
POSSIBLE IMPACT TO THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES
Agriculture, forestry, greenhouse, horticulture, and fishery are all bio-systems that automation
technology can logically be applied to. It is substituting more efficient techniques that can
perform the same tasks with outdated ones. Automation in agriculture has helped the industry
flourish and given farmers the opportunity to save time and money. The Demeter and mobile
robots, which are only used in agriculture, are two innovations made by scientists. Even in
underdeveloped countries, farmers are interested in using robots to tend their crop fields, pick
fruit, or even take care of their animals. Agriculture robots should communicate with people in
order to address issues with programming complexity. Automation provides real-time
information on soil characteristics, moisture content.

Two (2) noteworthy articles on the Internet about technological development in the
agricultural industry of the Philippines later than 2018
1st Article Title: The Extent of Effectiveness of Modern Agricultural Technology Among Farmers
in Barangay, Butong, City of Cabuyao, Laguna
Author: Sofia Mansujeto
Published Date:
Bottom Line: His use of modern agricultural technologies has allowed farmers to produce a lot
of food in a short length of time. This technology is advantageous to agriculture since it
promotes better and more productive farming methods. Some of the techniques in agricultural
technology that can be applied include herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and genetically
modified seeds. Technology has shown to be quite helpful to the agriculture industry
throughout history. The good news is that agricultural biotechnology has made it possible for
farmers to grow crops in areas that were previously thought to be inaccessible. For instance,
genetic engineering has made it possible for researchers to insert particular genes into the
genomes of both plants and animals. Animals become healthier and of the highest caliber, and
crops become more resistant to pests and droughts.

2nd Article Title: “In the Philippines, technology is seeping into agriculture”
Author: Anna A. Mogato
Published Date: July 26, 2018
Bottom Line: Agriculture in the Philippines has always been associated with manual labor and outdated
conventional farming methods. The impression that farming is a low-paying occupation complicates the
Department of Agriculture's (DA) aim to ensure food security and increase industry recruitment. But the
industry is already making gradual but consistent development. Both the governmental and commercial
sectors have sought to address the issue of self-sufficiency in important food staples through the
introduction of hybrid seeds, cutting-edge agricultural techniques, and technology to the agriculture
sector in recent years. Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piol unveiled the department's main efforts in
May, saying they were "prepared in such a way that they would not merely be serving the demands of
the moment." His department's primary initiatives were announced by Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel
F. Piol in May and were "planned in such a way that they would not just be fulfilling the demands of the
people in six years but beyond 10 years, 20 years, and even fifty years."
One of these was a ground-breaking map (www.farmersguidemap.gov.ph), which shows the best crops
to cultivate in each region of the Philippines and where the shallowest water tables are located.
Additionally, it lists the fertilizers required to compensate for the soil's deficiency in nutrients and the
community's high rate of poverty.
