IFS Food was the first standard developed in the IFS family. Through the IFS Food, retailers and manufacturers check the product safety of their suppliers through regular audits. These audits are carried out by qualified auditors of independent accredited and approved certification bodies. IFS is an umbrella brand providing independent, global and fully managed standards used by the food industry. IFS is responsible for providing a universal tool for the assessment and certification of the safety and quality of products and their supply. IFS is applicable in the whole supply chain with the exception of pre-farm gate. Currently, IFS standards cover the fields of food, transport, logistics and broker as well as household and personal care products. IFS offers all companies that are part of the supply chain clear-cut certification of all common quality and safety aspects of their product ranges and/or services to the high standards required in all parts of the world. IFS approach is risk-based. The requirements give every company the chance to develop their own solution which fits the processes and needs of the company. During the audit the IFS auditors check if the developed solution works in practice with the main goal to guarantee that food safety will be reached. IFS Food is a recognized standard by GFSI and is officially accepted by Wal-Mart, METRO, Carrefour, ALDI, Tesco, Ahold, Delhaize and Migros. IFS is also used by the US National Restaurant Association as well as by all other German, French, Italian, Spanish, Swiss, Austrian and Polish retailers. The requirements of the IFS Food are divided into five chapters: Senior Management Responsibility Quality Management System Resource Management Production Process Measurements, Analyses and Improvements IFS has developed a food defense checklist especially for the US market. That gives your company the opportunity not only to check your competence in food safety and quality, but also provides an additional 14 requirements in the categories security assessment, site security, personal & visitor security and external inspections. With the food defense checklist you can demonstrate that your company has taken all necessary measurements to protect your plants. Cooperation with GlobalGAP and vertical quality systems like QS, KAT und FQU helps to avoid multiple audits.

IFS Logistics the joint objective of trade and industry is to create transparency and trust across the entire supply chain. IFS Logistics was developed for this reason. IFS Logistics is appropriate for food as well as for non-food products and encompasses all activities such as: transport, storage, loading and uploading. It can be applied for all kinds of logistics: road, rail, shipping, frozen/chilled and unchilled. For this reason, the standard defines common requirements for HACCP and risk management which are to be adapted by the auditor depending on the products.

IFS HPC Increasing consumer demands in household and cosmetic products have made it necessary to accompany the manufacturing of these products by intense quality assurance. Also, in recent years customer expectations have increased in the quality and product safety of detergents. Therefore IFS HPC not only assesses the product safety, but numerous additional quality aspects as well.
