Personal Relationships: ‘According to the Miriam Dictionary, relationship isthe state of being related or interrelated. On the other hand, Personal Relationship is a type of retationship that involves ciose connection between people that is formed by emotional bonds and interactions. tis a relationship that can grow and be strengthened through time with ‘mutual experiences. Also, it can furthermore be defined with privacy and intimacy, and of ‘course, itinvolves commitment. ‘Types of Relationship: ‘The types of Relationships is depending on the nature of interaction that exist between ‘wo or more entities Business Transactional Relationship is a relationship built on the expectation of reciprocation and how they will benefit, Within a transactional relationship, bonds are broken the moment one party does not do their role in the deal made. ‘Examale of this is when a couple treats a relationship ke a business [Link] is only ‘working because of a certain deal Professional Relationship is a relationship with an interpersonal association between two ‘or more incividuals and people. They cooperate to pursue the same goal for the benefit ‘oftheir company or group. Family Relationships are the relationships with the people who are bonded by biood and the share of emotions. ‘Examples of this are families that are related by bith, marriage, or adoption. Friendly Relationships are the relationships in a state where they are just being friendly to one another. Examples for this are the friends that we have, ‘Romantic Relationships are the relationship that has an intimacy between one another ‘where they both share emotional and physical bonds. In this state of relationship ‘commitment is vital role Exampies for this are the relationship between a boyiend and a giiend, or a married couple, How attachments are developed: ‘The term attachment is coined by the Psychologist John Bowlby as The ability for an individual to form an emotional and physical “attachment” to another person, Furthermore, it gives a sense of stability and security necessary to take risks, branch ‘out, and grow and develop as a personally. ‘The 3 Attachment Styles: ‘There are 3 attachment styles founded by Mary Ainsworth. The folowing are the Secure attachment, Anxious-Avoidant attachment, and Anxious-Ambivalent attachment, ‘Secure attachment is wherein the primary caregiver, such as the parents, are mostly Present and avaliable, securing the emotional needs ofthe infant while stil young, Having a secure attachment during one’s childhood, wil affect the child as they are ‘most likely to grow up to be in a secure and stable relationship. On the other hand, Anxious-Avoldant attachment is wherein the primary caregiver is. cold, detached, emotionally unavailable, and unresponsive to the infants needs while sill young. Having an anxious-avoidant attachment during one's childhood, wil affect the child as they would most likely be avoidant and have an unstable relationship in the future. Lastly, Anxious-Ambivalent Attachment is wherein the primary caregiver is inconsistent with their presence and in meeting the child's needs. Having an ~anxious-ambivalent attachment during one's childhood, will affect the child as they will ‘most likely grow up to have separation anxiety and mixed feelings in hesitancy and commitment in relationships. What Drives Attraction ‘According to the Miriam Dictionary, attraction is defined as something that attracts or is intended to attract people by appealing to their desires and tastes, Furthermore, itis defined by Helen Fisher, an American Anthropologist, as the first stage that leads to the stages of intimacy and commitment. Its primarily based in physiology ‘oF certain hormones picked up by those attracted. Following this, is the 3 Brain Systems of Love or “The Three Stages of Falling in Love" First is Lust. Lust is driven by sex hormones which are testosterone for males and ‘estrogen for females Basically this stage is when a person is only tracted physically or ‘sexually to someone, ‘Next is attraction. Attraction is also known as the ‘Lovestruck phase.’ Itis when our body releases the hormones dopamine, the happy hormone, norepinephrine, the stress. hormone, and serotonin, the hormone responsible for our moods and feelings, ‘This is the stage where the person gets excited in doing anything for or with their partner, setious romantic relationshi Last is Attachment. Attachment is when it already involves Commitment which is Jong-asting and mutually agreed upon and exchanged. This stage leads to marriage and ifdesired, raising of one's own family. The Rozenberg Quarterly theories on attractio The Rozenberg Quarterly theories on attraction are 6 theories that explains how a person is attracted to someone. The following theories are’ Transference Effect, a phenomenon characterized by an unconscious redirection of ean erona persons incu ecr bn ne eee rot er Propinquity Effect, the tendency for people to form friendships or romantic relationships. with those whom they encounter often, forming a bond between subject and friend. ‘Occupational propinquity, based on a person's career, is also commonly seen as a factor in marriage selection. An example of this are the relationship that starts off from being classmates, fiends, or officemates. Simiary is when people are atacted to those siniar other, Gram fr hisis when Reciprocity is when the person gives back what is being given to them to form and promote mutual liking. Example for this is when a gid likes back the person courting her. Physical Attractiveness is when a person's physical features are considered aesthetically pleasing or beautiful. It is a major factor in liking someone, especially in terms of first Impression. Example for this is when a guy gels attracted and lke a gid because he finds erbeautful Personality Characteristics and Traits is when people are attracted to someone's personally, leading them to liking that person. Example for this is when a gid gets attracted to a guy due to his funny personality. Love and intimacy Love and Intimacy, it is defined by the Mirima Dictionary as a feeling of strong or ‘constant affection for a person, Love and intimacy is then further explained with the Different Components of Love as theorized in the Triangular Theory of Love by Robert Sternberg. In this theory, there are ‘3 components: Intimacy, Commitment, and Passion, Intimacy is the action of being open and showing vulnerability to a trusted person either ‘emotionally, physically, or both. Communication is @ key component in developing intimacy. ‘Commitment on the other hand is a promise of loyalty. Itis a consistent fulfilment of a promise, action, or agreement Lastly, Passion. Itis an intense feeling, emotion, and desire towards someone or something, Robert Stronberg’s Triangular Theory of Love ‘The triangular theory of love consists of 7 theories or kinds of love. The following are: Liking which is only under intimacy, Companionate Love which is under intimacy and ‘commitment, Empty love which is commitment alone, Fatuous love which is under ‘commitment and passion, infatuation which is passion alone, Romantic love which is passion and intimacy, and lastly is consummate love which is under all the components, ‘of love: intimacy, commitment, and passion. Commitment Commitment is defined by the Miriam Dictionary as the action of Continuing and Consistent process of showing love and care, fulfiling a promise, action, or agreement ‘made with each other. It stays and continues through bad times or good times. Under commitment are 3 variables that relate to it ‘The 3 Variables Related to Commitment are the following: ‘Acoumulation of all rewards of the relationship, this is considered as the most important determinant of emotional and physical satisfaction in a relationship ‘Temptation of Alternative partners, this is when there is a fewer option a person in the relationship is exposed to, this gives a smaller chance of breaking up Investments made by the couple in the relationship are the time, effort, and experiences spent together.
