Classroom Goals

of the classroom

 All students will be well informed in their education and complete their work to the best
of their abilities
 All students will explore new concepts and form opinions based off their findings
 All students will achieve their personal goals for the school year set at the beginning of
the year

Guidelines for Success

 The classroom is a safe haven, leave all drama and negativity at the door, it will not be
tolerated
 Students must respond to class call-and-responses
o “If you see me and you tryna see what’s up” “Skeee”
o “One, two, three, eyes on me” “One, two, eyes on you”
o Crack, snapple pop
 Follow the classroom rules and procedures at all times
 Never be afraid to ask a question, but wait until everyone is finished speaking
 Participation is expected and very appreciated
 When in doubt, refer to the anchor charts posted around the room
 Always do your best, even when you are not sure

Classroom Rules
Classroom rules will be created and established together as a class, but these are the few that will
already be in place
 Maintain a clean station and clean after each activity
 Respect yourself, the teacher, and your classmates
 Respect the environment and the equipment in it
 Make good decisions for your safety and the safety of those around you
 Keep hands to self at all times
 Always raise your hand, especially when someone else is talking
 If there is a problem, do not hesitate to ask for help
 When walking in the halls, maintain a level 0-2 noise volume and walk in a single-file
line
 Eating is only permitted at certain times of the day
 Be kind to everyone and be kind to yourself
 Return anything you borrow
 Never run with scissors, pencils, or other sharp objects

Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations

Positive
 Class reward system: students can fill up a jar of fuzzies with good behavior/participation
to gain a whole class prize such as a Fun Friday, get out of homework pass, or other
class-wide activities
 Small group reward system: each table gets a punch card that gets punched when the
teacher sees them following the rules or being a kind member of the class. When the all
10 boxes of the card are punched, the group can pick a prize of toys, candy, or stickers
and get a new card
 Individual reward system: students can earn up to 10 points a week for good behavior,
helping in class, etc. that they can cash in at the end of the week for candy or stickers as
long as they have a minimum of 6 points
Negative
 Loss of privilege: if a student mistreats a piece of technology/materials, they will no
longer be permitted to use the item for the day
 Changes in seat arrangements: if students find it difficult to concentrate sitting with or
have a difficult time cooperating with certain classmates, seating arrangements will be
changed
 Loss of fun time/activities: if students have a difficult time concentrating during
lesson/activity time, they will be expected to make it up during times they could have
been participating in other activities
 Alone quiet time: if students exhibit disruptive behavior and are unable to refocus, they
will have the option of taking alone quiet time to reorganize themselves
 Letters of apology: if a student offends or harms a classmate, they will be expected to
write a letter of apology to the offended student
 Calls home if behavior continues/worsens: if student behavior is disruptive with no
responses to any behavior or classroom management strategies, parents/guardians will be
contacted to discuss further action

Classroom Procedures
When students first arrive, they must always…
 Pick a greeting from the greeting chart for me to welcome them into class
 Put away coats and bookbags in cubby
 Check smartboard/desk for morning work
 Complete morning work and turn in to homework bin
 Meet on rug for morning meeting
 Start every morning meeting with five minutes of stretching/breathing exercise
 Share one thing that happened the previous night
When transitioning from activities
 The Jeopardy song will play in the background as a signal that it’s time to move on
 Students will have until the end of the song to reset their station and move to the next
spot
 Transitions are to be calm and orderly, students should be considerate of those around
them and take their time
When transitioning from classroom
 Students will walk in an orderly fashion in a single file line behind the teacher
 Noise level must remain at a level 0-1
 Line leader/caboose jobs must be acknowledged
Each student will be assigned a classroom job
 Jobs will be changed every two weeks
 Some jobs will require pairs while others will be individual tasks
 Jobs will include pencil sharpeners, mail runners, librarians, tablet chargers, teacher’s
assistant, line leaders, and line caboose

Lateness
 As this is an elementary classroom, lateness is not truly a punishable offense. Whatever
material is missed due to lateness will be made up at a later date. Habitual lateness,
however, will be reported to the attendance office for records and further legal action
may be taken by the district

 Class play in December
 Daily guided reading practice
 Daily independent reading

other work ahead of time
 Tests will be given on Wednesdays (as the schedule allows)
 Each student will have an All-About-Me poster to complete at home. This will be the
only large assignment sent home
 Weekend writing journals will be completed every Monday to reflect on the weekend

Turning in Assignments
 All physical assignments (in-school and homework) will be submitted in the green
Homework bin. All electronic assignments will be submitted through Seesaw or Google
Classroom

Returning Assignments to Students

 Once assignments are graded and logged into gradebook, all physical assignments will be
returned to students to take home for parent/guardian signatures. All electronic
assignments will be accessible to students at any time until the end of the school year

Late, Missing or Incomplete Assignments

 All assignments can be turned in for full credit a full week after the original due date.
After the full week, assignments submitted will receive partial credit. Incomplete
assignments will be returned for completion and regraded based off new submission

Returning From Absence

 When returning from an extended absence, students will be expected to make up the
work either as homework or during break times (except lunch/recess)

Communication Procedures with Parents/Guardians

 Weekly updates will be sent to parents/guardians via email, Google Classroom, or a
physical newsletter sent home with students on Fridays. Parents will have the option to
choose a preferred method of contact, but Google Classroom will be the preferred method

End of the Day

At the end of each day, students will…
 Pack all materials to take home
 Ensure everything is in its respective place
 Clean their stations of any trash, spills, or clutter before leaving for the day
 Pick up little trash they left around the room
 Reorganize any centers they visited throughout the day
 Anything a student wishes to leave at school must be kept in their cubby or desk pockets.
Any items left at school will be placed on the students’ desk

Classroom Set Up
At the end of your plan, provide a design of your “dream” classroom. Be sure to label each area
of the room Use the Draw feature of Word to do so or draw your own and scan it into your
