School Cebu Technological University Grade Level 6
PC
Teacher Lingaolingao, Jessa M. Learning Area Science
Time & 11-07-2023 Quarter 1st Quarter
Dates @8:00-4:30pm
I. OBJECTIVES Identify the Homogeneous mixtures and Heterogeneous mixtures;
Compare and contrast between the water, sugar and the sand; and
Determine the Homogeneous mixtures and Heterogeneous mixture.
Value the importance of Characteristics of Mixtures.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of different types of mixtures and
their characteristics.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to prepare beneficial and useful mixtures
such as drinks, food, and herbal medicines.
C. Learning The learners should be able to describe the appearance and uses uniform
Competencies/objectives and non-uniform mixtures (S6MT-Ia-c1)
Write the LC code for each
II. CONTENT Mixture and their Characteristics
III. LEARNING RESOURCES Flash cards, Pictures, Different mixtures

4. Additional Resources from
Learning Resources
B. Other Learning Resources
IV.
A. Review previous lesson or Reviewing previous lesson by asking the following questions.
presenting the new lesson
Question:
1. What was our topic that we discussed yesterday?
2. What are those five senses?
3. What is the most important sense?
Possible Answers:
1. The five senses
2. Those senses are sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.
3. our eyes
B. Establishing a purpose for the Discussion and Interaction
lesson The teacher will show pictures and let the students identify if it is
Homogenous mixtures or Heterogeneous mixtures.
.
C. Presenting examples/instance of
the new lesson
The class will play “Minute to Win It. Look for 2 challengers for each task
from the class who can do it in one minute.
CHALLENGE 1: Prepare Ding Dong Mixed Nuts and the challenger must
separate the nuts in one minute.
CHALLENGE 2: The challenger must dissolve sugar in water in one
minute.
Characteristics of Mixtures.
A mixture is composed of one or more pure substances in varying
composition.
There are two characteristics of mixtures: heterogeneous and
homogeneous.
A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the composition is not
uniform throughout the mixture.
A homogeneous mixture is a mixture throughout the solution in which the
composition is uniform.
Homogeneous mixture Heterogeneous mixture
It has a uniform It has a non-uniform composition
composition
It has only one phase There are two or more phases
It can’t be separated out It can be separated out physically
physically
‘homo’ means the same ‘hetero’ means different
Example: a mixture of Example: a mixture of water and sand
sugar and water
D. Discuss new concepts and
practicing new skills #1 Analysis
E. Discuss new concepts and 1. What are your observations in the activity?
practicing new skills #2 2. Why Mixture Ding Dong Mixed Nuts is a homogeneous mixture?
3. Why Mixture sugar and water is a heterogeneous mixture?
4. How did you group the following products?
F. Developing Mastery: (Leads to
Formative Assessment 3) 5. Why chocolate chip cookie is a heterogeneous mixture?
6. Why liquid dishwashing soap is a homogeneous mixture
G. Finding Practical Applications of GROUP ACTIVITY
Concepts & Skills on Daily Living
(Valuing) The students will be divided into two groups, each group will determine if
it’s homogenous or heterogeneous mixtures.
Heterogeneous mixtures
1. Oil and water
2. Fruit salad
3. Halo-halo
4. Milk and cereals
5. Vegetable soup
Homogenous mixtures
1. Rainwater
2. Vinegar
3. Dishwashing detergent
4. Cup of Coffee
5. Mouthwash
H. Making The teacher will ask the following questions to the students. And let the
Generalization/Abstraction students give the correct answer.
1. What have you observed about the activity?
2. How do you identify if it’s homogenous or heterogeneous?
3. Who can give another example of homogenous mixture?
4. What about heterogeneous mixtures?
I. Evaluating Learning Direction: Classify the following processes as Homogenous mixtures or
Heterogeneous mixtures.
1. It can’t be separated out physically. (Homo)
2. It has only one phase. (Homo)
3. It has a uniform composition. (Homo)
4. It can be separated out physically. (Hetero)
5. There are two or more phases. (Hetero)
6. It has a non-uniform composition. (Hetero)
7. If salt dissolves in water, it disperses evenly throughout
the water. (Homo)
8. Air is a mixture of gases spread evenly throughout the
atmosphere. (Homo)
9. Salads contain many distinguishable components:
vegetables, cheese, chicken, dressing, or others. (Hetero)
10. Most oils do not mix well with water, so they have
heterogeneous regions of mostly oil and mostly water.
(Hetero)
