EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The main purpose of this design analysis report is to study the
safety, adequacy, reliability and performance of the existing
electrical system design and related components of the Shell Depot
in Anibong Terminal in Tacloban City, in accordance with the
technical engineering calculation, local regulation and codes, and
other relevant international standards.
The Shell Depot is supplied by 2- 75 kVA, single phase oil immersed
distribution transformer connected in open delta configuration, 13.2
kV / 230 V, 60 Hz with back-up generator 169 kVA, 3-phase, 480V,
60Hz. The scope of this report is to study the electrical systems
connected to the 2-75 kVA, Oil-Immersed Transformers, 13.2 kV /
230 V, 60 Hz for the Oil Depot with the total demand load of about
129.04 kVA.
This design analysis report represents all the electrical engineering
calculations used such as voltage drop, cable ampacity, short
circuit, protective device and coordination, and arc flash analysis to
verify and validate the system model of the existing electrical
system design. The presentation of the time - current characteristic
curves under the protective device and coordination is prepared
with the use of Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP)
software version 12.6.

1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
1.1 PROJECT GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
2. DESIGN ANALYSIS
According to clause [Link] (F) of the PEC 1 2017 edition, the
design analysis shows the following:
a. Branch circuits, sub-feeders, feeders, busways and service
entrance.
b. Types, ratings and trip settings of overload protective devices
c. Calculation of voltage drops
d. Calculation of short-circuit current
e. Protection coordination of overcurrent protective devices
f. Arc-Flash Hazard Analysis
2.1 System Frequency and Power Factor
The system frequency applied in this electrical system is at 60
Hz and the power factor is 0.80 lagging.
5
2.2 System Voltage Ratings
The system voltage ratings in this electrical system are based
on Leyte II Electric Cooperative (LEYECO II)
Standard as shown below:
Primary Voltage: 13,800 Volts
Secondary Voltage: 230 Volts

3. SINGLE LINE DIAGRAM
Figure 1: Power Single-Line Diagram

4. VOLTAGE DROP CALCULATION
The allowable total voltage drops from the transformer up to the
farthest load should be less than 5%, as per the NEC -2014 Article
215, Section 215.2, Information Note No.2, equivalent to PEC 2017
Section [Link] FPN No.2.
In reference to IEEE Std. 141-1993, Article 3.11.1 the formula
for calculating the voltage drop are:
√3x IFL x L x (RcosØ+XsinØ)
VD₃∅=
1000 x N
2 x IFL x L x (RcosØ+XsinØ)
VD1∅=
1000 x N
Where:
VD : Voltage Drop in (V)
VD% : Voltage Drop on the cable in (%)
Vn : Nominal Source Voltage in (V)
IFL : Full Load Current (A)
L : Cable length in (meter)
R : Cable Resistance (Ω/km)
X : Cable Reactance (Ω/km)
N : Number of Cable Runs
Ø : Power Factor Angle of the Circuit
8
For simplification of the calculation, selected cables were chosen to
evaluate as mention below:
❖ TR to MCC-1
❖ MCC-1 to MDP
❖ MDP to LP4
❖ LP4 to Water Pump

5. Transformer Loading
Transformers are generally designed to function within their
nameplate ratings. The loading of the transformer affects its life
span, due to operating temperature, copper losses, and
economics as well. Table shows the summary of the result for
the loading of the transformers.
5.1 Analysis
As per the result of the transformer loading, it is found that the
allowable load almost reached to its maximum capacity. Thus,
future expansion or additional load is not recommended.
Also some motor feeders, almost reached the allowable voltage
drop.
5.2 Recommendation
➢ Provide additional 1-75 kVA, single phase transformer for
future expansion and to close the delta connection.
➢ Upgrade the motor feeders to next standard size of cable.
12
6. SHORT CIRCUIT ANALYSIS
The Short Circuit calculation is required to determine the
values of system voltages and currents during faulted
conditions. Hence, the protective devices may be set to
detect and minimize the harmful effects of such incidents.

7. PROTECTION AND COORDINATION
The protection Coordination Study refers to the selection and
setting of protective devices in an electric power system in such
manner as cause the smallest possible portion of the system to be
de-energized due to an abnormal condition.
