Heat Distribution System
• Forced/Warm Air Heating System - A heating
system that uses warm air (140 deg. F), rather than
steam or hot water as the heating medium.
• Components of the system:
- Furnace/Boilers
- Smoke Vent/Stock
- Ducts
- Fans/Blowers
- Air Filters
- Dampers
- Registers/Return Grill
- Controls

• Hot-Water Heating System - A heating system
that utilizes water at temperatures of about 200
deg. F.
• Components of the system:
- Boiler/Solar
- Smoke Vent/Stock
- Heat Exchanger/Converter
- Compression Tank
- Circulation Pump
- Hot Water Line (main line)
- Runout (branch line)
- Control Valves
- Return Fittings and Lines

• Steam Heating System - A heating system that
uses steam/vapor. It consists of a boiler or steam
generator and a piping system connecting to
individual radiators or convectors.
• Components of the system:
- Boiler
- Smoke Vent/Stock
- Steam Line (main line/loop)
- Runout (branch line)
- Control Valves/Drip Trap
- Heating Unit (radiators)
- Return Lines/Wet-return Line
Electrical Heating System – is more accurately
described as electric-resistance heating.
Resistance is the property of a conductor by
virtue of which the passage of current is
opposed, causing electric energy to be converted
into heat.
• Components of system:
- Electric Unit
- Resistance Coils
• Radiant Heating System - or panel heating as it
is sometimes referred to, consists of a warm pipe
coil embedded in the floor, ceiling, or walls. The
most common arrangement is to circulate warm
water through the pipe under the floor.
• Components of the system:
- Boiler
- Heat Exchanger
- Coil Pipes/Tubing (branch)
- Headers (main/return lines)
