Aims
The course is designed for applied science students. It equips students with basic concepts and
techniques of linear algebra, differential and integral calculus that are useful for solving
engineering and science problems.

Course description
This course covers basic elements of vectors, vector spaces, matrices, determinants, solving
systems of linear equations, concepts and applications of differential and integral calculus of
one variable.

Course objectives
On completion of the course successful students will be able to:
- understand the basic ideas of vector
algebra, understand matrix algebra,
- determine the determinants,
- determine linear independence of vectors,
- apply scalar and vector products,
- write equations of lines and planes,
- determine direction angles and direction cosines of a vector,
- apply the basic techniques of matrix
algebra, determine inverse of a matrix,
- apply elementary row operation,
- solve systems of linear equations,
- understand the concepts of limit and continuity
- evaluate derivatives,
- apply derivatives,
- understand the concepts of integration,
- evaluate integrals,
- apply integrals
