08 Trends May2022 v02 HANDOUT

The document discusses creating and configuring trends in EcoStruxure Building 2022. It describes different types of trend logs, how data is stored, and how it can be presented numerically or graphically. It also covers real-time plotting, implicit trend logs, circular storage, and accessing historical trend log data using TimescaleDB and external databases.

Trends Overview
Creating and Configuring Trends

•The function of a trend log:

– Log the variable that it connects to and store the
records

•Storing large amounts of records:

– NOTE: External Trend Logs now means ETL’s are no
longer required in EBO2022.
– This means Customer sites being upgraded from
previous EBO versions to EBO2022, will need to follow
the upgrade path, but be aware, WebReports are no
longer supported. *See slides regarding TimescaleDB.
•Records within the trend log and extended trend log
can be presented:
– Numerically in a trend log list
– Graphically in a trend chart
– Calculations when presented
– *External Trend Log data for Reports or Dashboards

Real-Time Plotting
Creating and Configuring Trends

•Real time plot is a variable displayed

directly in the trend chart
– Instant reflection of the variable
– Displayed in real (local) time

•A real time plot can only be displayed in a

trend chart

Trend Log Types

Creating and Configuring Trends

•Interval Trend Logs – The “classic” temperature log

•Change of Value Trend Logs – Pressure, quick changes
•BACnet Trend logs (can be change of value or Interval)
•Variable Triggered Trend Logs – Controlled by program
•Manual Trend Logs – Record external data, normalized
•Implicit Trend Logs of IO variables in AS-P and AS-B
– Change of Value log
– Auto defined Delta
– ~500 values, circular storage
•External Trend Logs - Collect data directly from the
SpaceLogic Server, using TimescaleDB, then store data from
Trend Logs in PostgreSQL to use for Reports or Dashboards.

Implicit Trend Log
Creating and Configuring Trends

•A change in value trend log which monitors the I/O

variable

•Records a new value if the variable exceeds the delta Unit Delta
Temp 0.2 °C (0.2 °F)
•Delta is automatically defined by EcoStruxure Building
Operation depending on the measured unit of the device
Voltage 0.2 V
connected to the I/O port
Current 0.3 mA
•The implicit trend log exists on all I/O points in SmartX
servers
– When a device is connected to an I/O port, the implicit trend Resistance 200 ohm
log is automatically configured and starts recording values

•Stores 500 records before old records are overwritten

Circular Storage
Creating and Configuring Trends

•All trend logs in EcoStruxure Building Operation use

circular storage (FIFO = First In First Out)

•How many records a trend log stores before

overwriting old ones depends on the trend log
configuration

•Example:
– A trend log is configured to store 10 records
– The logging starts and the first record x1 is stored
– After 10 records the trend log is full
– The next record x11 overwrites the oldest record x1
– The next logging x12 overwrites the oldest record x2
and so on

Internal and/or External Trend Logs

Creating and Configuring Trends

Enterprise
•Collect and store data from: Server or Internal Logs
– Internal Trend Logs Enterprise External Trend Logs
– External Trend Logs Central
•Makes data available for Backup and Archive
operations Internal Trend Logs
AS-P/AS-B
•Required to present log data in Reports or External Trend Logs
Dashboards? Customer can use TimescaleDb and
PostgreSQL.
•Can be viewed in - SpaceLogic I/O
– Trend log list (AS-P/AS-B) Implicit Logs
– Trend chart

Trend Log Lists
Creating and Configuring Trends

•Numerically displays records

•Records processed by a calculation method before
presentation in the trend log list or trend chart
•Multiple logs in one list
– With one click, multiple logs can be compared in
text form.
– The Multi log list functionality automatically
supports all the calculation methods and export to
XML or CSV files.

Calculation Methods
Creating and Configuring Trends

•Drag-n-drop variables or logs to add records to existing chart

•Calculation methods available:
– Maximum
– Minimum
– Average
– Summary
– Delta
• The change to previous value is calculated and presented
– Meter consumption
• Used when presenting log data from meters

BACnet Trends in MP-C/RP-C
Creating and Configuring Trends

•BACnet trend logs are not started automatically when they are
created. They need to be started.

•BACnet trend logs are of type COV (Change of Value) as default.

If you change the log interval from zero to any value, the Trend
Log will change to an Interval Trend Log.

•Note that the default value of the Buffer size of a BACnet Trend
Log is set to 10. You normally need to increase this value.
