Description Writing
Planning Description Writing
Purpose
To describe a person, place, or thing so that your writing creates a picture in the
reader’s mind.
Use this sheet to plan your descriptive writing. Use bullet points or short sentences to
organise your ideas.
Topic
Orientation
Start your descriptive writing with an opening statement that clearly says what your
writing is about. You also need to hook your reader in. You can do this in several
ways - use onomatopoeia, speech, a short sentence, a question, a funny or factual
statement, etc.
