SAP R/3 4.7 EE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

System requirements
RAM > 512 MB (Preferred 1.0 GB)
Hard Disk (HDD) > 120 GB (Can be installed on a 80 GB HDD also, but
20GB External HDD is required for SAP-R/3 DUMP)
Processor > 2.4 GHz
Start Win 2000 / 2003 Server Setup using Win 2000 / 2003 Server Bootable CD
Note: Win 2000 / 2003 Professional CD not to be used
CREATING PARTITION ON HARD DISK DRIVE:
Create 3 partitions (in case of 80 GB HDD, create 2 partitions)
C:\ Any size between 9,000 MB to 10,000 MB
D:\ Any size between 65,000 MB to 70,000 MB
E:\ Remaining Disk Space (in case of 80 GB HDD, E:\ will not exist)
We will use –
C:\ To install Operating System (OS) i.e. Win 2000 / 2003 Server
D:\ To install SAP R/3 4.7
E:\ SAP R/3 DUMP. (In case of 80 GB HDD, E:\ will not exist)
(After completion of SAP-R/3 installation, SAP-R/3 DUMP can be deleted from E:\
and the disk space can be used for personal use)
OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION ON C:\
Install Win 2000 / 2003 Server in C:\
Give Computer Name STARR3 (Any of your choice)
Note: Enter any Computer Name of your choice, remember the name will be
required towards the end of SAP R/3 installation, after GUI installation
FORMAT D:\ and E:\
Complete NTFS format on D:\ and E:\
SAP R/3 DUMP transfer to E:\
After Win 2000 / 2003 Server Installation and formatting disk is completed.
Create a folder in E:\ called DUMP (i.e. E:\DUMP)
Copy all 3 DVDs (DB1 to DB3, Ker, Oracle817, OraPatches, etc) to E:\DUMP
(In case of 80 GB HDD, copy 3 DVDs to the 20 GB External HDD)
SAP R/3 s/w installation will be done from this E:\DUMP folder (Source folder).

CHANGE SYSTEM YEAR TO INCREASE THE SAP R/3 EXPIRATION:
Advance (increase) the System Year by 4-5 years ahead of the current (installation)
year. This is done to increase the SAP R/3 s/w expiration year.
For example if current year is 2006, advance the year to say 2010.
After SAP R/3 installation is complete bring back the system year to current year.
i.e. change it back from 2010 to 2006
VIRTUAL MEMORY SETTING:
1. For Win 2003 Server -
Right Click on My Computer (Desktop) Properties System Properties
Advanced Tab Under Performance, click Settings On Performance Options
screen, go to Advanced Tab Click Change
Select C:\ Select Custom Size
Initial size (MB): 1000
Maximum size (MB): 1500
Click Set OK OK
Select D:\ Select Custom Size
Initial size (MB): 2500
Maximum size (MB): 2550
Click Set OK OK

1. For Win 2003 Server -
Click on Start Settings Control Panel

Setting IP Address (for Win 2003 Server):
• Right Click on ”My Network Places” icon (On Desktop) Click Properties
• Right Click on “Local Area Connection – Microsoft Loopback Adapter”
Click on Properties
• In the Local Area Connection Properties screen General Tab Select
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Click Properties
• In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties screen Select Use the
following IP Address
IP Address: Enter your IP Address or 200.200.200.0
or 192.168.10.10 or 192.168.12.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

CHANGE usr Folder’s Properties in Win 2003 Server
(No change required in Win 2000 Server)
Using Windows Explorer Go to C:\ Select folder usr Right click on folder
usr Properties Security Tab make sure for each “Group or User Names” all
“Permission for Administrators” are Allowed (every box is checked under “Allow”)

ORACLE INSTALLATION:
For SAP-R/3 Version 4.7 Oracle 8i will be installed
For SAP-R/3 Version 4.7
Go to Path: E:\ DUMP\Oracle817\NT\I386\setup.exe (where E:\ DUMP\ is the
location where the installation s/w for SAP-R/3 4.7 is available)
Double Click on Setup.exe Click Next
Oracle Universal installer screen will appear.
Important Note: Destination Path: Must be set to drive where SAP-R/3 s/w
needs be installed (in this case set to D:\ drive). Change only the drive
specification, do not change any destination folders.
(The screen shot destination is different – not to be confused, it is only to
show how the screen looks like).

Select Oracle8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.7.0.0 (1st option) Next
Select Typical Installation (by Default) Next
Enter Global Database Name: ORA
Note: Automatically it will take SID: ORA (Do NOT change it)
Click Next Install
It will take 15-20 minutes to install
Once Oracle Database installation is completed – Dialogue Box will come –
“Database Creation Complete” Click OK

Double Click on j2sdk-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe
OR
Double Click on j2sdk-1_4_2-nb-3_5_1-bin-windows.exe
* Check the file name, there will be only one JAVA installation file *
Next Accept
C:\Program Files\j2sdk (Needs to the same drive where OS is installed)
Next YES Next (Do not enter any Server or any information, just leave
them blank) Next Finish
Note: In case of any error – At least one system failed Click OK

Now installation will be started
It will take 10 -15 Hours to complete
At the end (after 10 -15 Hours) select continue installation and click Next
If you get any error message, don’t click retry immediately.
Wait for 10 minutes and then click retry
After getting message – “Installation finished successfully” Click OK
Shut down Server (if Server is ON)
Reboot System

TEST IF SAP R/3 SERVER STARTS / IS WORKING PROPERLY
After system reboots – Double click on the “SAP R/3 System Management
SAP R3 Management Console.lnk
Console” icon to start server
Open SAP R/3 System Management Console from desktop
Click on ‘+’ Symbol which is beside of ‘SAP R/3 System’.
Click all ‘+’ symbols to expand all nodes.
Right Click On DRS (ERP) Start
Click on Process List
In the right side of window you will see strdbs.exe is starting
Wait until Msgserver and Dispatcher comes to Green Color.
Click on Refresh button for every 20 seconds
After getting Green status
Click on WP Table (Left Side of the screen)
It will show a list of Services

Please wait until ‘Status’ of all services comes to “Wait” (Presently ‘Status’ may be
“Run”) AND ‘Start’ column shows “yes”
Click on Refresh button for every 20 seconds to refresh the screen.
In Status column all “Wait”

In Start column all “yes”
Indicates SERVER has started
successfully
After SAP R/3 Server STARTS successfully, wait for 2-3 minutes, then turn OFF
the SAP R/3 Server and go for the GUI Installation

Note: Make sure the SAP R/3 Server is turned OFF before GUI Installation
From E:\DUMP Folder SAPGUI620 Folder GUI Folder WINDOWS

Important: Make sure drive selected is the OS Drive (in this case C:\) Next
Click “Select All” Next Install Finished
It might take 10 – 15 minutes, it may ask to restart computer, if asked then restart
system and start SAP services, and continue from here.

After GUI Installation - Double click on the “SAP R/3 System Management
SAP R3 Management Console.lnk
Console” icon to START Server
Note: Make sure the SAP R/3 Server is turned ON now
Note: The status under WP Table - In Status column all “Wait” and in Start column all
“yes”. Indicates SERVER has started successfully

Click ”New” button and give following settings -
