Introduction
Band-Aid.com is a website for the Band-Aid brand that is designed to
highlight their various products (such as their bandages, wound cleaners, first
aid kits, etc.). Band-aid.com also provides their users with resources to find
the best product to meet the users’ needs.

A usability test is intended to determine the extent an interface facilitates a

user’s ability to complete routine tasks. Typically the test is conducted with a
group of potential users either in a usability lab, remotely (using e-meeting
software and telephone connection), or on-site with portable equipment.
Users are asked to complete a series of routine tasks. Sessions are recorded
and analyzed to identify potential areas for improvement to the web site.

UNG Student, Emma Thomas, conducted a usability test using the band-
aid.com website located on her computer. The participant was asked to
navigate the website and include their input while the interviewer typed their
answers on a word document. The session captured each participant’s
navigational choices, task completion rates, comments, overall satisfaction
ratings, questions, and feedback.

Executive Summary
The usability test was conducted in our home of both the interviewer and the
participant, Caleb Thomas. The test was done on Saturday, September 23 rd, 2023, at
6: 45p.m and was conducted for approximately 28 minutes. The purpose of the test
was to assess the usability of the web interface design, information flow, and
information architecture.

Overall, the participant found the website to be easy to navigate, with some few
issues here and there with finding the newsletter sign-up and using the
questionnaire. Mr. Caleb Thomas has had no prior experience on this website but is
very familiar with their bandage products.

The participant mentioned a few minor problems:

- Lack of pricing on their website.
- Difficulty finding their newsletter sign-up.
- Difficulty using the questionnaire as results did not always seem to match the
preferences marked.
- Inability to sort products by rating.

This document contains the participant feedback, satisfactions ratings, task

completion rates, ease or difficulty of completion ratings, time on task, errors, and
personal thoughts and recommendations.

Methodology
Sessions
Participant was recruited at the request of the interviewer for him to assist
the interviewer on an assignment. The participant agreed to assist in the usability
test. The interviewer made this request at 6:41 p.m. and the participant made
himself available at 6:45 p.m. The participant joined the interviewer at her desk to
conduct the test. The participant read the tasks scenarios and tried to find the
information on the website.

After each task, the interviewer asked a series of questions based on a scale of 1-5,
where one represents Strongly Disagree, and 5 represents Strongly Agree. Post-task
scenario subjective measures included (see Attachment B):
- How easy was it to find the sign-up information on the website?
- How easy was it to use the website’s provided questionnaire to find products
to meet your needs?

After the last task was completed, the test administrator asked the participant to
rate the website overall by using a 5-point Likert scale (Strongly Disagree to
Strongly Agree) for several subjective measures including:
- Ease of navigation
- Ease of use
- Site Organization
- Information usefulness
- Information facilitation

In addition, the test administrator asked the participants the following overall
website questions:
 What the participant liked most.
 What the participant liked least.
 Recommendations for improvement.

Participants
The participant is the husband of the interviewer. The test was conducted on
September 23, 2023 (Saturday).

Task Ratings
After the completion of each task, participants rated the ease or difficult of
completing the task for three factors:
 It was easy to find my way to this information from the homepage.
 As I was searching for this information, I was able to keep track of
where I was in the website.
 I was able to accurately predict which section of the website
contained this information.

The 5-point rating scale ranged from 1 (Strongly disagree) to 5 (Strongly

agree). Agree ratings are the agree and strongly agree ratings combined with
a mean agreement ratings of > 4.0 considered as the user agrees that the
information was easy to find, that they could keep track of their location and
predict the section to find the information.

Ease in Finding Information

The participant did not find the information easy to find for the sign-up but
did find the information easy to comprehend for the questionnaire despite the
very confusing results.

Keeping Track of Location in Site

Participant agreed that keeping track of their location on the website was not
difficult, but a lot of scrolling was involved.

Predicting Information Section

Participant agreed that it was easy to predict the information.

4.6.2 Likes, Dislikes, Participant Recommendations

Upon completion of the tasks, participants provided feedback for what they
liked most and least about the website, and recommendations for improving
the website.

Liked Most
The following comments capture what the participants liked most:
I liked the resources the website provided for First-aid care and other forms
of care such as post-surgery care.

Liked Least
The location of the sign-up page and the inability to re-set the questionnaire
without reloading the page again.

Recommendations for Improvement

Create a sidebar for the homepage that would allow you to see the newsletter
sign-up, along with reduce the amount of scrolling required per page. Additionally,
make it clear that the preferences made have been updated by including the
selections made along with the results.

Recommendations
The recommendations section provides recommended changes and
justifications driven by the participant success rate, behaviors, and
comments. Each recommendation includes a severity rating. The following
recommendations will improve the overall ease of use and address the areas
where participants experienced problems or found the interface/information
architecture unclear.

Find Organizational or Individual Funding Information (Task 1)

Task 1 required participants to find the newsletter sign-up.

Change Justification Severity

 Create a sidebar to sign-up Difficult to find the information and was not in a High
for the newsletter clear spot on the website.
It blended in with the white background and
small text.
Respondent gave a rating for the website’s
organization a two.

Conclusion
The participant found the Band-Aid website to be disorganized, somewhat
easy to use, and somewhat easy to find information quickly.
The participant also reported that they do not think they will return to the
website nor do they have much use for a Band-Aid newsletter.

Implementing the recommendations and continuing to work with users (i.e.,

real lay persons) will ensure a continued user-centered website.

Before I let you navigate the site, I need some information from you. What is your
age, sex, occupation, hours online, and favorite websites?

I am 21, male, and a cyber security analyst. I spend about 30+ hours a week online
between my phone, work, and for other uses. My favorite websites are Reddit,
Bungie.Net, and YouTube.com.

Awesome, thank you. Have you visited Band-aid.com before?

No, I haven’t.

For your first task, I want you to go onto Band-Aid’s website and navigate the
website until you find the newsletter sign-up. Do not use the pop-up to complete
this task. Please do not enter your information, simply just find it.

For your second task, I want you to click on the Recommendation Quiz located on
their home page. Once you do so, please play around with the Recommendation quiz
and find a product to best match your preferences. Feel free to adjust your
preferences for a different result if you would like. Do not go to purchase once you
are done.
