START
• If start ITT limit is exceeded, abort start and refer to engine Service
Manual for corrective action.

TAKEOFF
• If takeoff limit is exceeded, reduce power setting to within limits and
record both temperature and duration in excess of limit in engine log.
An ITT overshoot resulting from application of takeoff power not
exceeding takeoff transient limit is allowable and does not require
an engine log entry.
• If takeoff transient limit is exceeded, reduce power setting to within
limits and make electronic computer N1 adjustment before next
flight. Observe takeoff ITT limit.
• If a takeoff ITT of 870°C or more is attained for more than 10 seconds
or 930°C is attained or exceeded, refer to engine Service Manual
for corrective action.

MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS
• Maximum continuous limit is 832°C. However, for greatest engine
life it is recommended that, under normal conditions, engine power
be reduced to an ITT of 795°C or less after 30 minutes of maximum
continuous operation.

ENGINE RUN PRECAUTIONS

I. SAFETY PERSONNEL—If available, will be stationed outside to act

as signal person and fire guard. The safety person must be in contact
using either inter-phone communication or prearranged signals with
the person conducting the run-up. Both persons must be familiar with
fire procedures. The safety person must remain attentive throughout
the engine run and alert run personnel of abnormal events occurring in
and around the aircraft.

Abnormal events include but are not limited to the following:

1. Engine Fire.
2. Abnormal Engine Noises.
3. Fuel, Hydraulic or Oil Leaks.
4. Hazards developing in the vicinity of the aircraft. eg. Other
aircraft movements, personnel or vehicles.
5. Aircraft movement from the parked area.
II. ENGINE START AND RUN-UP AT RAMP AREAS—Since it is
necessary at times to operate the engine(s) at low or high power
settings to complete inspections/checks or system operation when
the aircraft is located adjacent to hangars, terminals, buildings or
other aircraft, pay particular attention to the following precautions:

1. To prevent the possibility of the engine fuel system being drained

completely, with possibility of damage to a standby electrical
fuel pump, ensure before starting that there is adequate supply
of fuel in the tanks for the run to be carried out.
2. Engines may be run at the ramp area providing no damage can
be caused to other aircraft, hangars, terminals, or buildings.
Permission to run at power settings higher than idle is usually
required from local airport authorities.
3. All procedures detailed in the aircraft and powerplant maintenance
manuals must be followed to avoid injury to personnel and
damage to the aircraft or equipment with particular emphasis on
the following precautions:
a. All doors and access panels must be closed and latched.

b. Brake must be on, brake pressure indicated and wheel chocks

in position prior to starting engines.

c. Ensure aircraft is parked on a level surface and that the

areas FWD and aft is free of debris, stones etc. which may
be ingested by the engines during the run.

d. All personnel and equipment in the vicinity of the aircraft

must be clear of engine intake and exhaust danger areas.

Revision 1 E-i
LEARJET 35 MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

ENGINE RUN PRECAUTIONS (Cont)

III. ENGINE START AND RUN-UP IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS—

During slippery conditions such as ice, snow, sleet or rain, in addition
to observing the above precautions, pay particular attention to the
following:

1. Park the aircraft on bare pavement before and after run-up

if possible.
2. During engine operation, allow the aircraft to run-up against the
chocks before applying additional engine power (> idle).
3. Do not allow the aircraft to back away from the chocks.
4. Assign a safety person to keep lookout for aircraft movement at
all times the engines are running.

IV. ENGINE RUN-UP AT HIGH POWER SETTINGS—Should the

checks to be performed during run-up require high power settings
observe the following additional precautions:

1. Notify the airport authority (ground control) by radio, of your

intentions.
2. If you have taxi authority and must move the airplane to a
designated run-up area, observe all taxi instructions as provided
by the airport authority. Watch for other aircraft traffic at all
times especially on active runways and observe the rules
pertaining to the right of way and light signals.
3. Monitor the ground control frequency at all times, before leaving
the ramp area and until returning to the ramp parking area.
4. When high power settings are being used ensure the aircraft is
up against the chocks. Use blast fence when feasible.
