Ques 1. Consider the Sample Superstore dataset. Generate visual representations of the
real sales figures for each sub-category in the year 2015 and then plot the projected
sales targets for each sub-category in 2016. These projected targets should be set at
150% of the actual sales from 2015. Assess and interpret the sales patterns for each sub-
category in both years.

Ans.1) To create projected sales for the year 2016, the steps are as follows:

1) Drag the order date field to the filter shelf and choose 2015.
2) Drag the sub-category to the column shelf and sales to the row shelf, this will display
the real sales figures for each sub-category in 2015.
3) Create a calculated field named: 150% increase in 2016
- [Sales]*1.5
4) Drag the calculated field to the same axis as the real sales figures on the Rows shelf.
5) This will display the real sales figure as well as the expected figure in 2016
From this following points can be understood,
1. Chair and phone have the highest potential of generating revenue as they have the
highest sales in 2015 and the projected sales in 2016 are also high.
2. Whereas, fasteners and supplies have generated the lowest sales and have low
projected sales well for the next year.

Ques 2. What are the key principles and strategies for creating dashboards that are
both impactful and captivating? Please provide a comprehensive explanation.

Ans. 2) Design concepts and efficient Tableau feature utilization are combined to create
visually striking and appealing dashboards. The following are some of the features: -

1. Identify the target audience and goals:

- Clearly state the goals of your dashboard and be aware of who your target market is.
Adapt the design to their requirements and preferences.

2. Begin with an Unambiguous Layout:

- Create a streamlined, well-organized layout. Make use of containers and logical

element arrangement. Make sure the material is arranged in a clear hierarchy that
directs the user's focus from the most crucial insights to the supporting elements.

3. Consistent Design:

- Ensure that all sheets and dashboards have the same colour schemes, typefaces, and
formatting. Consistent design improves the dashboard's appearance and feel overall.

4. Efficient Data Visualization:

- Select the appropriate chart types based on your data. Tableau provides a wide range
of visualization choices. Based on the type of data you have and the narrative you
wish to convey, take into consideration bar charts, line charts, scatter plots, etc.

5. Use of Color:

- Make strategic use of colour to draw attention to key information. Make sure the
colour selections follow accessibility guidelines and have meaning. Make good use of
colour legends.

Ques 3. How do exploratory and explanatory analyses differ in Tableau, and which one
do you consider superior in your opinion, and for what reasons?
Ans. 3) Within the data analysis process, exploratory and explanatory analyses have distinct
functions and applications. Let's examine the variations and talk about their advantages:

A) Exploratory Analysis

- Purpose:

The primary goals of exploratory analysis are to comprehend the data, identify trends, and
develop hypotheses. It entails looking at the data without any preconceived notions.

- Tableau Application:

Because of its dynamic and interactive features, Tableau is an excellent tool for exploratory
analysis. It enables the quick application of filters, the creation of multiple visualisations, and
the testing of different hypotheses at any point.

- Benefits include:

Quick data investigation.

Hidden patterns can be found with the help of dynamic visualization.
Facilitates the formulation and testing of hypotheses.

B) Explanatory Analysis:

- Objective:

Explanatory analysis seeks to communicate specific conclusions or insights to a readership. It

entails telling a structured story to clarify facts and support a specific argument or conclusion.

- Tableau Application:

Tableau is also very useful for explanatory analysis. It allows you to build sophisticated
dashboards with a clear narrative, annotations, and storytelling elements to effectively
communicate information.

- Benefits

The concise sharing of insights.

Storytelling elements facilitate the audience's navigation of the analysis.
Useful for sharing ideas with stakeholders and giving presentations.

In our opinion, Exploratory analysis is the best method for understanding the nature of the
data and spotting intriguing patterns. It is superior in the early phases of data exploration and
hypothesis formulation and Tableau can be considered as an effective tool for exploratory
analysis because of its ability to enhance the process by providing a visually engaging
platform for in-depth insights and discoveries.
