Self Expression Debate Notes

The document discusses the differences between the youth of today and yesterday in terms of freedom of speech. It provides the example of Maria Clara, who represents the youth of yesterday as prim, proper, and unable to fight for her rights or stand up for herself, unlike Klay who represents today's youth who knows how to fight for herself and stand up for what's right. The youth of today is seen as more inclined towards self-expression, able to communicate feelings well, and unafraid to speak up and challenge conventions, unlike the "bulag" or blind youth of yesterday.

Speech

According to Robin S. A person without self expression is a person without personal

freedom.

The youth of today is better than the youth of yesterday, because us today’s
generation have freedom of speech. we are more inclined to self expression; we can
communicate our feelings well. for me, this generation paints a picture of a
generation who are unafraid to speak up and challenge convention. There is a
sophisticated understanding of the values exchange between cultures and traditions
between us youth than the old generation. Like in the television, maria klara and klay,
maria klara is the example of a woman who is prim and proper a person who can’t
fight for her rights, who can’t stand up for herself, unlike klay who represents our
generation klay knows how to fight for herself she knows to stand up for herself. We
can see that in In todays generation we know how to speak up for ourselves and fight
for what’s right.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold
opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any
media and regardless of frontiers.

— Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Ways Youth Engagement in Free Speech Happens

Youth Organizing — Leading campaigns focused on free speech, young people can rally their
friends, peers, younger people and entire communities. Organizing campaigns can target on
repression of free speech, youth expression, community building activities, and other ways free
speech happens throughout our lives and our communities.

Youth as Teachers — When young people gain knowledge and skills focused on free speech,
they can develop the skills necessary to transform the hearts and minds of students.
Experiencing youth facilitation on learning, teaching and leadership can inspire others to take
fast action, assume appropriate responsibility, and move people from resistance to acceptance
to advocacy quickly.

Youth Media Makers — Developing, researching, reporting, distributing and critiquing the media
they consume can position young people as powerful free speech advocates. Youth voice and
advocacy can be bolder, last longer and have greater impact when youth media makers are
active throughout a community, on the Internet or in other venues.
Youth as Artists — Creative expressions of attitudes, wisdom, knowledge, ideas, criticism and
culture are powerful ways young people can express their free speech rights and advocate for
youth free speech. Youth as artists can alter individual opinions, build community knowledge
and share cultural expression that might otherwise be ignored, denied or lost.

Today’s Youth Abuse Soc Med According to Jon Ronson “ the great thing
about social media was how it gave a voice to
voiceless people” Social media is an outlet to

our feelings According to a Harvard study,
routine social media use is positively
associated with social wellbeing, self-rated
health, and mental health. People of all ages
can use social media to develop a platform
with a larger audience than they’d have in
any other setting. This can help educate ,
spread awareness to certain issues like
poverty, Covid 19 , and climate change. You
can use social media to raise awareness
about a cause you believe in or support
others who already do.

Freedom of speech According to article 19 of the universal

declaration of rights Everyone has the right to
freedom of expression; this right includes
freedom to hold opinions without interference
and to seek. Freedom of speech is a choice
that youth of today took and youth yesterday
didnt. It is a choice that we took despite of the
dangers that it brings. Okay gaan ta kamo
example, example is ang pag stand up sang
youth of today para kay leni. That is an
example of freedom of speech we youth
knows what’s the best for us that’s why we
stand up for it unlike sang youth of yesterday
naging bulag sila sa Society, government and
higher ups. According to a wise woman Leni
Robredo “ We came through because we
pulled together; because we extended the
reach of our compassion; because we treated
each Filipino like they were on our side; we
fought for each other and love each other” I
believe that ang Kabataan ang pag asa ng

Difference of Youth of Today and Youth of Maria Clara was a strong Filipina character
Yesterday, because of how she endured despite being
The youth of today isn't prim and proper portrayed as prim and delicate. Therefore, she
is a perfect embodiment of youth of yesterday
we can see that maria klara is afraid of
speaking up her opinions she is afraid of
raising up her voice. But being prim and
proper doesn't mean that you are the better
person. On the other hand, Klay, who
represents our generation, is not afraid to use
her voice to express herself; she knows what
is right and fights for it. I believe that instead
of telling girls and women to be modest,
teach them to empower themselves, embrace
their sexuality, and not feel pressured to
conform to the "dalagang Pilipina" notion of
purity. We should all have the choice to pick
how we present ourselves, and still be
respected regardless of how we act or what
we wear.
I believe that we, The youth of today Can
raise our voices — not so that we can shout,
but so that those without a voice can be
heard … we cannot all succeed when half of
us are held back.
It took us quite a long time to develop a
voice, and now that we have it, we, the youth
of today, are not going to be silent
