Questions No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data-based questions with 2
to 3 short sub-parts.
Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
37 Read the passage given below and answer the following questions. 4
On the basis of the reactivity of different metals with oxygen, water and
acids as well as displacement reactions, the metals have been arranged
in the decreasing order of their reactivities. This arrangement is known as
the activity series or reactivity series of metals. The basis of reactivity is
the tendency of metals to lose electrons. If a metal can lose electrons
easily to form positive ions, it will react readily with other substances.
Therefore, it will be a reactive metal. On the other hand, if a meal loses
electrons less rapidly to form a positive ion, it will react slowly with other
substances. Therefore, such a metal will be less reactive.
(i) Which of the following metals is less reactive than hydrogen?
(a) Copper (b) Zinc (c) Magnesium (d) Lead
(ii) Which of the following metals is more reactive than hydrogen?
(a) Mercury (b) Platinum (c) Iron (d) Gold
(iii) Which of the following metals reacts vigorously with oxygen?
(a) Zinc (b) Magnesium (c) Sodium (d) Copper
(iv) Which of the following represents the correct order of reactivity for the
given metals?
(a) Na > Mg > Al > Cu (b) Mg > Na > Al > Cu
(c) Na > Mg > Cu > Al (d) Mg > Al > Na > Cu

38 The endocrine system is made up of glands 4
that make hormones. Hormones are the body's
chemical messengers. They carry information
and instructions from one set of cells to another.
This system affects growth and development,
metabolism, sexual function, and mood. If your
hormone levels are too high or too low, you
may have an endocrine disease or disorder.
Endocrine diseases and disorders also occur if
your body does not respond to hormones.
Answer the questions based on the given diagram of the endocrine system-
a- Label A and B
b- Write one role of each and C and D
c- How F and G differ in their role. Mention only one difference.
OR
Which endocrine is responsible for
(a)Growth (b)Anger
(c)Sperm formation (d)Regulation of blood sugar level
39 The Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the 1+1+2
World. The
Tehri dam withholds a reservoir of capacity 4.0 km2 and a surface area
of 52 km2. It is used for irrigation, municipal water supply and the
generation of 1000 MW of hydroelectricity.
The Tehri Dam has been the object of protests. Environment activist
Shri. Sunder Lal Bahuguna led the ‘Anti-Tehri Dam movement’ from the
1980s to 2014. The protest was against the displacement of town
inhabitants and the environmental consequences of the weak ecosystem.
The relocation of more than 1,00,000 people from the area has led to
protracted legal battles over resettlement rights and ultimately resulted in
the delayed completion of the project.
(a) How is hydropower harnessed?
(b) Define 1 MW
(c) Mention two disadvantages of constructing Tehri Dam.
