Understanding the Boy We Serve

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the session, the participants should be able to:
A. discuss needs, wants, interests of the boys;
B. identify characteristics of boys;
C. list down scouting activities that meet the needs and interest of the boys

CONTENTS:
UNDERSTANDING THE BOY WE SERVE:

SUGGESTED METHODS / STRATEGIES :

1. Opener: 10 minutes
Buzz Method
A. The session holder present a picture of a boy and let the group answer the two questions
after.

1. Do we know our boys?


2. Why do we need to take care of our boys?
B. Link the the questions to the topic.
C. Present the topic and explain briefly its objectives

2. Activity : (10 minutes)


Brainstorming
The session holder will show pictures.

The session holder will ask the group to have a brainstorming on what are the needs and
interest of a boy. They will write their answer in a voucher paper and present their output
after the time alloted.

3. Analysis : 10 mins.
The session holder will process the activities by asking the following questions:
a. Do you think that every boy has the same wants and needs?
b. Why do we need to safeguard the interests of young people?
c. What do you think our role as an adult to our boy?

4. Abstraction (20 minutes)


Lecture Method
The session holder gives a talk/lecturette about the following :
a. The Needs, Wants and Interest of a boy
b. Identification of the characteristic of a boy. Through an activity were the participants
chooses sentences in voucher paper strips and let them paste them on its correct column.

5. Application (5 minutes)
Small Group Discussion
List down different scouting activities that can meet the needs and interest of a boy?

6. Ender (5 minutes)
a. Wrap-up the session , give a recap and summary of key points about the topic
b. End the session with a quote:
“The sport in scouting is to find the good in every boy and develop it”
