External Calibrator Standard Operating Procedure

Objective:
The objective of this SOP is to establish a systematic and standardized procedure for using
external calibrators to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.

Equipment and Materials:

- External calibrator device
- Device under test (DUT)
- Calibration certificates for external calibrator
- Necessary cables and connectors
- Calibration software (if applicable)
- Record keeping forms

Procedure:
1. Preparation:
a. Gather all required equipment and materials.
b. Ensure the external calibrator and DUT are in proper working condition.
c. Verify that the calibration certificates for the external calibrator are up-to-date.

2. Environment Check:
a. Perform the calibration in a controlled environment with stable temperature and humidity.
b. Ensure that there are no electromagnetic interferences during the calibration process.

3. Connection Setup:
a. Connect the external calibrator to the calibration port of the DUT using the appropriate cables
and connectors.
b. Double-check the connections to ensure they are secure.

4. Power On:
a. Power on the external calibrator and allow it to stabilize for the recommended warm-up period.
b. Verify that the calibration device is displaying accurate information.

5. Calibration Software (if applicable):

a. If using calibration software, launch the application on the connected computer.
b. Follow the software instructions to establish communication with the external calibrator.

6. Calibration Process:
a. Initiate the calibration process as per the external calibrator's user manual.
b. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided by the calibrator, making any necessary
adjustments on the DUT.
7. Verification:
a. After calibration, perform a verification check to ensure that the DUT readings align with the
expected values.
b. Record the verification results.

8. Documentation:
a. Complete the calibration records, including date, technician's name, and any observed issues
or adjustments made.
b. Attach calibration certificates for the external calibrator to the documentation.

9. Final Checks:
a. Power off the external calibrator and disconnect it from the DUT.
b. Ensure all equipment is returned to its designated storage location.

10. Quality Assurance:

a. Review the calibration results for accuracy and completeness.
b. File the calibration documentation in the appropriate records system.

Records and Reports:

Maintain detailed records of each calibration, including pre-calibration and post-calibration
measurements, any adjustments made, and verification results. File calibration certificates for
external calibrators separately.
