SINGLE BOARD HISTORY MODULE (SBHM)
Background The History Module has been redesigned to be completely contained on
one board, including the redundant drives. This was necessitated by
parts needed to build the Smart Peripheral Controller (SPC) board
becoming obsolete. The drives used in the Winchester Disk Assembly
(WDA) have also become harder to obtain.
The SBHM uses the 2-1/2" low profile drives. The drives in the SBHM
appear as dual logical drives. The effective storage capacity of each
logical drive is 1.8 GB. The SBHM will work in any chassis (10 slot, 5
slot, or dual node). The SBHM mother board contains the equivalent of
a K4 processor, the LCN function, and all the required drive interface
logic. The SBHM can be operated with one or two drives installed. With
one drive installed, it is equivalent to an older dual drive HM. With two
drives installed, it is equivalent to an older dual redundant HM.
The SBHM does require LCN software release R500 or higher.
The only other board needed with the SBHM is a LCN I/O paddle card
for the LCN cable connections.
Action The kits listed in Table 1 will upgrade any WREN or WDA style history
module to the SBHM. The SBHM only requires the electronics module so
for a WREN HM all drive modules can be removed. For each drive
module removed, one air baffle kit must be installed to maintain the
correct air flow in the cabinet. For a WDA, the drive tray assembly
occupying slots 4 and 5 will be removed.
The SBHM must be placed in slot 1. There is a vibration dampening
plate mounted across the top of the SBHM that will slide in slot 2. This is
needed to improve stability because of the two large cutouts in the
motherboard for the drive assemblies.

LCN I/O Paddle Any LCN I/O card can be used with the SBHM with one exception. If it is an
Card older LCN I/O board with part number 51107403-100, it must be revision T or
higher. The SBHM board contains a switch to set the LCN address similar to
the K4xxx boards. It is located near the back right corner of the board. See
"PD 15 A04" (I) page 3 for node addressing switch instructions.
SBHM Indicators Figure 1 shows the front edge of the SBHM. Besides the 3 bar LCN
address display, there are seven other LEDs spread across the front of
the SBHM. Table 2 details the LEDs from left to right across the SBHM.
The right drive is the primary drive and will always be present. There are
no jumper settings on these drives, addresses are determined by
physical position. There is a power switch and power LED located on the
SBHM for each drive. The power switch is a rocker switch; push the right
side in to turn ON a drive. The power LED will confirm the drive has
power. A drive can be replaced while the SBHM is running. Turn off the
drive to be removed, grasp the metal tabs on both sides of the drive, and
pull straight out. There is no mechanical catch holding the drive in, just
the friction of the connector and side guides. When inserting a drive,
make sure it is seated all the way in.

SBHM Indicators, Figure 2 shows the arrangement of a group of nine small RED surface mount
continued LEDs located near the left front of the SBHM. They are located just behind
the stand off mounting post. These are all fault indicators and should be OFF
under normal operation conditions. This serves the same function as the light
bar indicator found on the front of many other LCN boards.

Drive Formatting Many of the HVTS/SCMD tests are not supported by the SBHM. The
following SCMD tests are supported by the SBHM: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13,
14, 15, 16, 19, 23, 27, & 28. To format drives in the SBHM use test 19,
Surface Check, do NOT use test 21. You also want to disable
"QUICK_SURFACE_CHECK", enable "COMPARE_SURFACE
_TEST_DATA", no to "LIMIT_TESTING_TO_READ_ONLY", leave
"BLOCK_SIZE_IN_BYTES" at 256, and set "PASS_LIMIT" = 1. All other
settings would be as normally expected for test 19. Do not abort this test,
allow it to complete which can take up to 8 hours.
-190 Error Some customers have experienced SBHM failures reporting -190.
Sometimes hardware needs to be replaced to recover. It was found
disc anomalies or errors were the main cause of this. The firmware
on the SBHM was changed in March 2006 to improve the error
handling of disc errors (SPC FW REV went to "K").

Jumpers There is a square jumper block on the SBHM located at J6. It is located
near the right edge of the board about half way back from the front edge.
It is only used for factory testing in conjunction with the DB9 connector at
J5. For normal operation the jumper block must be positioned as shown
in Figure 3 below. The two white indicators are positioned horizontally
going from side to side on the board, and the block must be in the left
position. Any other orientation of this jumper block will prevent proper
operation of the SBHM. An example of the jumper being set wrong will be
the LEDs showing 1E1 and the network showing "No Response" from the
SBHM on power-up.

Clear File Some of the LEDs on the SBHM are hidden from view by the standard card
Covers file cover. Honeywell has available a clear card file cover made out of
Lexan, see Table 4. This cover can be used in place of the standard card
file cover to allow viewing all the LEDs with the cover in place.
