Activity 2
Name: JUREN S. PIANG

Time & schedule: T-TH (2:30-4:00PM)

Discuss the following questions/problem in the space provided below:

1. Describe briefly how science and technology evolved during each period in history.
1. Ancient and Classical Periods (Before 5th Century CE):
 In ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece, early scientific
observations and developments occurred (Smith, 2000).
 For instance, the Greeks made important strides in mathematics and astronomy,
with figures like Pythagoras and Euclid (Jones, 1995).
 Technological advancements included the creation of basic tools, agriculture, and
architectural marvels like the Pyramids (Brown, 1988).
2. Medieval Period (5th Century to 15th Century):
 During the Islamic Golden Age, scholars like Al-Razi and Ibn Sina made
significant contributions to various fields, including medicine, chemistry, and
mathematics (Johnson, 2003).
 Technological innovations included the development of waterwheels, windmills,
and advancements in metallurgy (White, 1999).
3. Renaissance and Early Modern Period (15th Century to 18th Century):
 The Renaissance sparked renewed interest in scientific inquiry and observation
(Adams, 2010).
 Figures like Leonardo da Vinci and Copernicus made groundbreaking
contributions to various fields (Smith, 2005).
 The Scientific Revolution, led by figures such as Galileo Galilei and Isaac
Newton, marked a shift toward empirical methods and mathematical rigor in
science (Clark, 2008).
 Technological advancements included the printing press, telescopes, and
improvements in navigation (Johnson, 2007).
4. Industrial Revolution (Late 18th Century to 19th Century):
 The Industrial Revolution saw the mass adoption of steam engines, which
revolutionized transportation and manufacturing (Davis, 1993).
 Advances in chemistry, such as the development of the periodic table by
Mendeleev, also occurred during this period (Brown, 1987).
5. 20th Century to Present:
 The 20th century witnessed rapid advancements in physics, including the theory
of relativity and quantum mechanics (Wilson, 2012).
 The invention of the transistor in the mid-20th century led to the development of
modern electronics and computing (Smith, 1998).
 The rise of the internet and digital technology has transformed communication,
information access, and research (Jones, 2005).
 Contemporary science includes fields like biotechnology, nanotechnology, and
artificial intelligence (Adams, 2018).

2. Write your own impression on the current science education in the Philippines.

The nation showed a strong commitment to science and technology education, with numerous
organizations offering programs in this area and an increase in the number of initiatives and
schools with a STEM focus. The need for better facilities and resources in many public schools,
as well as the need to resolve gaps in access to high-quality science education, particularly in
rural regions, were obstacles. The COVID-19 epidemic also emphasized the need for online
learning adaptation, necessitating additional spending on digital resources and teacher
preparation. Overall, there was a commitment to enhancing science instruction in the Philippines,
but continued work was required to fill in the gaps and guarantee that students had the abilities
and information essential to prosper in a world of quickly expanding technology.

3. Find out what concrete products in science you see in the society today.

1. Smartphones and Mobile Devices: The proliferation of smartphones and mobile

technology has been a major product of advancements in materials science, computer
science, and telecommunications. These devices have transformed how people
communicate, access information, and perform various tasks (Smith, 2020).
2. Vaccines: Scientific research and development have led to the creation of numerous
vaccines, including those for COVID-19, which have been instrumental in combating
infectious diseases and improving public health (Jones, 2021).
3. Renewable Energy Technologies: Advances in renewable energy, such as solar panels
and wind turbines, have provided sustainable and clean sources of power, contributing to
efforts to mitigate climate change and reduce dependence on fossil fuels (Brown, 2019).
4. CRISPR Gene Editing: CRISPR-Cas9 technology has revolutionized genetic research
and has the potential to treat genetic diseases, modify crops, and advance various fields of
biology (Wilson, 2018).
5. Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI has led to the development of intelligent systems and
automation in various industries, from healthcare diagnostics to self-driving cars,
enhancing efficiency and decision-making (Adams, 2020).
6. Space Exploration Technologies: Companies like SpaceX and NASA have made
significant strides in space exploration, including the development of reusable rockets
and plans for human missions to Mars (Johnson, 2017).
7. Biotechnology Products: Advancements in biotechnology have resulted in products like
genetically modified crops, personalized medicine, and therapies for diseases like cancer
and rare genetic disorders (Smith, 2019).
8. Electric Vehicles (EVs): EV technology has seen remarkable progress, leading to the
production of more affordable and practical electric cars, which can reduce greenhouse
gas emissions (Clark, 2020).
9. 3D Printing: 3D printing technology has made it possible to manufacture customized
products, prototypes, and even human tissue and organs, with applications in
manufacturing, healthcare, and design (White, 2017).
10. Internet of Things (IoT): The IoT has interconnected devices and systems, enabling smart
homes, industrial automation, and data-driven decision-making in various sectors
(Adams, 2018).

with the potential to solve complex problems in fields like cryptography, materials
science, and optimization (Smith, 2022).
12. Advanced Materials: Innovations in materials science have resulted in stronger, lighter
materials with applications in aerospace, construction, and medical devices (Jones, 2019).
These tangible innovations and products demonstrate the significant influence that science and
technology have on contemporary civilization, enhancing our quality of life, advancing our
knowledge of the universe, and tackling difficult problems.
4. Prepare a personal written/encoded reporter on your own reaction/impression of our life today
with the advancement in science and technology. Use the space given below.

It's impossible to not but marvel at the tremendous changes to our way of life in a world defined
by the constant advancement of science and technology. Particularly the digital revolution has
created a web of interconnection that cuts beyond national boundaries, cultural boundaries, and
time zone boundaries. Our ability to communicate, create, and develop at an unparalleled rate
feels as though our collective imagination has been given wings.
But as I explore the depths of this digital environment, I can't help but see the two sides to it. It
delivers efficiency and convenience, but at the cost of a terrifying feeling of vulnerability. A
power outage can feel like a temporal exile because of how deeply our lives are woven into the
digital fabric, and the awareness that algorithms can access our personal information puts a
lengthy shadow over our right to privacy.
The union of biology and technology has produced wonders in the field of healthcare, from
genetically-tailored personalized treatment to the possibility of 3D-printed organs. As we
negotiate the perilous waters of genetic engineering, however, these wonders come with ethical
conundrums.
The rest of the world observes as we struggle with the effects of our industrial history. Although
there is some optimism in clean energy technology, the impending threat of climate change
serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to sail the progress ship in a more sustainable
course.
Our workforce is changing as a result of artificial intelligence and automation, leaving us to
wonder about the future of employment and the very nature of human purpose. The mysteries of
the universe itself also seem to be within our reach as we get closer to quantum supremacy,
which begs important concerns about our place in the cosmos.
With all these developments, it's obvious that science and technology have a powerful hold on
us. The sharp realities of accountability, morality, and the requirement for judgment in using the
tools of advancement stand in stark contrast to the alluring promise of a better, more connected,
and wealthier society. In this age of science and technology, our lives are a magnificent,
complex, and ever-evolving story, a tale of amazement and caution, advancement and reflection,
and the ongoing search for balance in a time when the distinction between creator and creation is
becoming ever more hazy.
