Math Problem Solutions Guide

The document contains 13 math word problems with solutions. The problems involve integers, rates, money, ages, and consecutive numbers. Key details include: 1) The first problem finds two integers from their sum and product being -6 and -27. 2) Subsequent problems use similar approaches to find unknown values like calculating money earned over time, distances traveled at a rate, or amounts remaining after expenditures. 3) Problems involving ages use variables to represent ages and set up equations to solve for present or past values based on given information.

Page 4 and 5 Solution

III. Solve the following problems:

1. ) The sum of the two integers is (-6), and their product is (-27). What are the two integers?

Factors of 27: 3, 9

-9(3) = -27 ; -9 + 3 = -6

Answer: -9 and 6

2.) The sum of the two integers is (-12) and their product is (35). What are the two integers?

Factors of 35: 5, 7

(-7)(-5) = 35; (-7) + (-5) = -12

Answer: -7 and -12

3.) The product of two integers is (50) and their difference is (-23). What are the two integers?

Factors of 50: 5, 10, 2, 25

(-25)(-2) = 50; (-25) -(-2) = -23

Answer: -25 and -2

4.) John earns ₱400 a day working at a fast food as part-timer. How much does he earn in n day?

Answer: John earns ₱(400)(n) in n days!

5.) Paul drives 6km per hour. How far would he be if he drives in w hours?

Given: Speed = 6km/h, w = time

Required: Distance?

Speed = Distance/Time

Distance = (Speed)(Time)

Distance = (6km/h)(w)

6.) Jan had ₱m. He used ₱100 to buy food for lunch and he used the remaining to buy 5 Rubik’s cube as a
gift to his cousins. What is the amount of money he used to buy each Rubik’s cube in terms of m?

Given: m is total original amount

100 is used for food

5(x) is used for Rubik’s cube

Equation: m - 100 - 5x = 0
Required: x = ?

Solution: m = 100 + 5x

x = (m + 100)/5

7.) Daniel had ₱9s. After buying some snacks at ₱40 each, he had ₱s left. What is the number of snacks
Daniel bought in terms of s?

x is number of snacks.

Equation: 9s – 40x = s

Required: x

Sols: 9s – 40x = s

8s = 40

s=5

8.) Two numbers have a sum of 30. One of the numbers is m. What is the other number?

Answer: X = 30 - m

9.) At the beginning of the month, Bea had ₱10,000 in her savings account. During the month, she
deposited ₱5,000. After two weeks, she made a withdrawal of ₱5,000. Then, before the month ended, she
noticed that there was a debit of ₱8,000 in her account. How much money does she have at the end of
the month?

= 10,000 + 5,000 - 5,000 – 8000

= 2000

10.) In a quiz bee, the first question is worth 200, the second question is worth 500, and third question is
worth 800. If you answer the first question incorrectly, you will be deducted 100, for the second question,
you will be deducted by 300, and for the third question, you will be deducted twice the respective points.
If a team got the first and third questions respectively, what is the total points of the team?

= 200 - 300 + 800

= 700 points

11.) The sum of the 5 consecutive numbers is 65.

a.) Represent the four numbers in terms of x.

(X+1)

(X+2)

(x+3)
(X+4)

X + (X+1) + (X+2) + (X+3) + (X+4) = 65

b.) What are the 5 numbers?

X + (X+1) + (X+2) + (X+3) + (X+4) = 65

5X + 10 = 65

5X = 55

X = 11

11, 12, 13, 14, 15

12.) The sum of the five consecutive odd numbers is 85.

a.) Represent the four numbers in terms of x.

x + (x+2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) + (x + 8) = 85

(x+2)

(x+4)

(x+6)

(x+8)

b.) What are the five numbers?

x + (x+2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) + (x + 8) = 85

5x + 20 = 85

5x = 65

x = 13

13, 15, 17, 19, 21

13.) The sum of Anton and Brian’s age is 20. Anton is 4 years older than Brian.

a.) Represent their age in terms of x

Present Age Age in 6 years Age 6 years ago

Anton X+4 X+6+4 X+4–6
Brian X X+6 X-6
b.) What are their present ages?

(X + 4) + X = 20
Anton Brian

2X + 4 = 20

2X = 16

X=8

Anton is (8+4) = 12 yrs old.

Brian is 8 yrs old.

13.) Mother is twice as old as her daughter Kyla. Ten years old, the sum of their ages was 46 years.

a.) Represent their ages in terms of x.

Present Age Age 10 years ago

Mother 2x 2x – 10
Kyla x x - 10

b.) What are their present ages?

Age 10 years ago

2x - 10 + x - 10 = 46

3x - 20 = 46

3x = 66

x = 22

Mother is 22(2) = 44 yrs old.

Kyla is 22 yrs old.
