GUIDELINES
INTRODUCTION

M
alaysia International Young Inventors Olympiad, MIYIO is an annual event to
bring together young scientists from different school categories which
comprises of Fully Residential School, High Performance School, the Mara
Junior Science College, international schools, secondary schools, and primary schools
that involves nationwide and globally. It is a platform for sharing and developing
scientific and engineering research studies of students from all over the world. This
program has produced many highly talented students in the research world and has
also produced world-class science and engineering projects.

MIYIO will be hosted by Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra
under the organization of the Boarding School/Cluster Management Division, Ministry
of Education Malaysia.The co-organisers of the carnival are Universiti Malaysia Kelantan
(UMK), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), University of Technology MARA (UiTM) and
Kota Bharu Teacher’s Training Institute (IPGKB) .

GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. The competition is open to all students in boarding schools, Ministry of Education
Malaysia, day schools, Government Aided Religious Schools, Mara Junior Science
College and International Invitation Schools.
2. Each school in Malaysia who is invited, can submit 1 or more projects with a Project
Fee of RM400.00 each consisting of one teacher and three students only.
3. Entries from SBP are not charged for the first entry but for the second and
subsequent entries will be charged RM400 per project.
4. Payment can be made by cheque to PIBG SMSTMFP or can be made online transfer
to CIMB Islamic Bank account number : 8601788483 . Proof of payment must be
emailed to [email protected] by 30 September 2023.
5. International participants are charged a project fee of US$ 400 for each project
consisting of one teacher and three students.
6. For International participants, payment can be made by cheque or bank draft
payable to PIBG SMSTMFP. Payment can also be made by online transfer ( Foreign
Telegraphic Transfer ) to CIMB Islamic Bank account number: 8601788483 . Proof
of payment must be emailed to [email protected] by 30 September 2023.

7. Each individual or group team will have the opportunity to win a Special Jury,
Gold, Silver or Bronze Award based on the scores obtained..
8. The contested fields are:
• Innovative Science such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics

• Environmental Science

• Social Science
9. Each project or research paper must be accompanied by 2 copies of the abstract/
project summary. (abstract/project summary not exceeding 250 words and shall be
written in one page of A4-sized paper). The use of English is highly recommended.
However, abstracts in Bahasa Malaysia are still accepted.
10.Participants are required to refer to the schedule to see the important dates of the
competition.

WRITING REPORT GUIDELINES


1. Writing abstract
• Font: Arial
• Font size: 11
• Paragraphing: 1.5 spacing
• Length : 150-250 words
• Page Size: A4 (210 mm x 297 mm)
• Margin : Top-3 cm ,Bottom-3cm ,Left-4cm, Right-3 cm

2. Writing report
• Use A4 Paper
• Use Times New Roman (TNR) or Arial Narrow fonts
• The headline is written in a font size of 20 pt TNR, bold, center
• The names of students and advisors are written in 14 pt font , middle
• Headline : 14 pt TNR, bold, left
• Main subheadline : 12 pt TNR, bold, left
• Use hose 1.5
• Make sure a margin of 2 cm on each left side of the paper
• Figures and tables need to be labeled and numbered correctly .
• Adjust the language and format of the writing should be edited and reviewed
before submission of the report is made.

• Please bring along the return paperwork on the day of the presentation

3. Writing report format


Mailing page Description
Project Title Indicate the title of the project, the names of participants,
advisers and schools. Titles need to be written with 'bold' and easy
to read.
Abstract Synopsis to the whole study.
(state the study problem, hypothesis, methodology, analysis
results and study conclusions)
Contents Indicate the number and number of pages by topic. The page
number is placed at the center or left end of each page.
Appreciation List appreciation to all parties who have contributed expertise,
materials, support in the success of the project.
Introduction Project background, Problem Statement, Significant study,
Definition of terms, Scope and limitations of studies, comparison
of past studies.
Study Methodology or Design and details of the project, Materials and tools, treatments
Process or procedures carried out.
Experiment Describe the methodology used for data collection and
observation. Include photos or sketches of project or research
materials. The collection of project or research data can be
recorded in the data book.
Study results Analysis of data, interpretation of results and findings.

Discussion and The most important part. Results and discussions should be
conclusion analyzed in detail, make comparisons between theoretical and
practical values, review of data in journals and so on. Discuss
innovation or renewal if any.
The summary of the decision needs to be specific.
Reference A list of references should be included if it involves documentation
that is not a private result according to a specific format.
(Examples: Book title, article, journal, author name, year
published, letter , etc.)
Appendix Diagrams, tables, pictures, graphs and whatever visual material is
obtained from the experiments conducted.

FORMAT OF EXHIBITION MATERIALS


1. All projects or research should work on the day of the competition. Prototypes can be
displayed if they can be placed on the table. The maximum size of the project material
on display is 76 cm wide, 122 cm long and 274 cm high. Projects that exceed the
specified size will be canceled. The size and rules of the research are in accordance
with the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) regulatory standards , 2009.
2. The exhibition venue/'booth' comes with a tripod leg, a 2.3' x 3.3' table and a socket for
200 project sites only.

abstract papers ( file name format : SCHOOLCODE_ABS.doc, ex : DEE1415_ABS.doc )

replace SCHOOLCODE by SCHOOLNAME for file’s naming format.
4. Prizes are available to winners by category as gold, silver and bronze for 200 entries.
5. All decisions of the panel of judges are final and no appeal will be entertained.
