ABOUT THE PROJECT
● CLIENT: Raman Manandhar
● SITE AREA: 3835.23 SQ FT
● FLOOR AREA: 1383 SQ FT
● STRUCTURE TYPE: FRAME STRUCTURE
The site is located in a peaceful area with adequate land. The
client wanted no rentable space on his property and wished his
building to be built according to “Vastu”. Also client wanted
lavish double height living room having good view of the
landscape ahead and the road. In addition we also needed to
add some balcony on the west side of the building because of
the beautiful view of the pond.

Thimi residence is the project
i started as drafting practice
to improve my drafting skills. I
learned a new approach to
autocad drawings and 3D
visualizations.
I designed 3D and elevation
for this project. Designing
elevation was a tough
challenge for me as i was not
familiar with the process. I
studied Fort Langley Building
Facade Guidelines. This book
inspired me to get more SMALL PORCH WITH

options for the elevations. OF ROAD AND GARDEN
I also helped on landscape
visualization with temporary

In the present times,
Vaastu Shastra is popular
across the world. The
reason behind this is the
universal need for peace
and harmony, which the
application of Vaastu
Shastra in home
construction and design is
supposed to bring along
with promises of good
health, wealth and
happiness in life.

Lesson learnt
I learned many ideas, shortcuts and
techniques very much helpful for
architectural drafting. Here i learned drafting
from the basic layers and line weights. I also
learned using XL lines and polylines as
shortcuts during drafting process.
I learned sketching and softwares helps to
get more idea to the space visualization.
These habits also helps to get more options
for the provided project improving each
options one after another.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
● CLIENT: Shivahari Sapkota
● SITE AREA: 5254.2 SQ FT
● FLOOR AREA: 1307.98 SQ FT
● STRUCTURE TYPE: FRAME STRUCTURE
Residence of Mulpani comprises of different concepts. Main
concept followed for this project is the continuation of previous
outlying spaces. The verandah which laid on existing building
served many physical as well as cultural needs. The main motive
was to preserve and maximize the use of that space. For building
form rectilinear form was adopted with basic form.

INVOLVEMENT
● Municipal format
● 3D (sketchup)
● Renders (lumion)
● Post production (photoshop)
I prepared municipal format for this
project adopting every drafting skills i
learned from the firm. Later for space
visualization i also contributed on the 3D
and renders of this project. In addition i
also learned and drafted sanitary,
electrical and structural drawings for this
project.
I also learned setting out process in this
project. Since the site was far from the
main road we took a reference line from
the most accurate straight side. At first we
corrected and made that line straight.
Keeping that line as reference line we laid
out the grid as per plan. We corrected FIG: layout process on site as
every error on grid using 3,4,5 rule. per plan

Lesson learnt
Designing is a complicated
process with many possibilities. I
experienced many challenges
such as deadlines, facade
treatment and clients approval to
complete this project. Main thing i
learned is to focus and take time
while designing. If we rush while
designing then chances of making
mistakes early on increases which
ultimately results more and more
complication at the end of the
project.
Polylines that i learned from
drafting helped a lot on this
project. It comes in handy for quick
drafting and assembly editing.
Also on site safety and preparation
are equally important. This helps
us to preparer for the upcoming
challenge.

SANITARY DRAWINGS
Sanitary drawings was done
keeping in mind about lengths and
dimensions of pipe.
Layout was planned focusing on
keeping minimum distance of
pipes and minimum manholes.

ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS
I arranged bulbs, switches and
sockets for electrical drawing.
It is to be remembered that
adequate amount of bulb and
lighting is preferred. Also while
placing switches and sockets
easiness of client should be of
top priority.
Ultimately electrical drawing
helps reader to visualize
illumination. It also comes in
handy on site while placing
bulbs, switches and sockets.

STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS
Structural analysis is important as
it provides a basis for structural
design and also it evaluates
whether a specific structural
design will be able to withstand
external and internal stresses and
forces. The structural analysis
helps to determine the cause of a
structural failure.
In addition to architectural,
sanitary, and electrical drawings
also drafted structural drawings
for this project.
I learned to read and follow the
structure report after the structure
analysis of a building. I also
learned to draft the specific
structural drawings as per the FIG: Footing and trench layout plan
provided report.

SITE LEARNINGS FIG: Site after layout with thread
Construction process was to
start without hurting the
existing building. The ground
floor of existing building helped
to provide shelter for the
workers and storage for raw
materials.
After the layout of grid on site
with threads, it was now turn for
the excavation and
preparation.
FIG: Excavation and preparation on site
Firstly 5 ft deep was dug for
each foundation as specified
on the structural drawings.
Afterward earth was
compacted and 3’’ brick soling
was done above which came
P.C.C. (1:3:6 ratio). Then only
rebars were placed as shown in

After the completion of previous project client wants to get better
visualization of interior spaces as well. My involvement on this project is
the interior of kitchen/ dining and living room. With these two rooms
together i completed my option of interior design. Main motive of this
project is to help client foresee these spaces. Also client on this project
was to have false ceiling on both kitchen/ dining and living room.

FIG: MOODBOARD FOR INTERIOR
INVOLVEMENT
I designed 3D and layouts of
livingroom and kitchen/ dining for
this project. For design process i
created a moodboard from
MILANOTE. I collected a series of
references and made a color palette
which goes best with my composition
of arrangement. Color composition
and organization are main factors i
learned on this project. Also i did an
analysis on furniture standards and
construction techniques. FIG: STANDARD FURNITURE PLACEMENT

Lesson learnt
Interior designing was a
new experience to me.
Designing process
made me realize the
detail and thorough
analysis required in
interior design
I also captured
techniques like
preparing moodboard,
sketching, cross
referencing to move
forward during the
design process.
Moodboard helped me
get a visual preparation
for the design, while
sketching got more to
the depth of individual
portion. Reference
analysis helped me
eliminate small
negative spaces.

Until now i had a very little idea
about the importance of research
in design process. After this
project i now feel research as the
strongest element that guides
our project or simply any
particular design.
I also now have the experience of
extreme close deadlines in real
life, which leads to many minor
mistakes.

SITE BRIEF
Commercial building of syuchatar,
kalanki was on finishing stage when i
visited the building. It is a 6 and a half
storey tall building with 2 storey
basement. This tall structure captures
view from far away and also view from
the building is extremely beautiful. We
can catch almost full view of kathmandu
valley in front and at the back
breathtaking view of kirtipur durbar.
Overall it is a great site with extreme

CONCLUSION:
This period of practicum has been very beneficial to me, the work that |
have one, the knowledge that | have achieved during this period will
always be with me. It is not always necessary that theoretical
knowledge no matter how descriptive or well written can be understood.
This is where we require practical knowledge which explains things
more clearly, Practicum polished my theoretical knowledge and
introduced me into the practical word. | have grown not only as student
but also as an individual. It has built my confidence and helped me
improve my skills in designing, interacting and others. Thus, for a
student to work in a professional office environment and to gain the
practical knowledge required, the practicum course has been very
useful in providing opportunities. It was indeed a privilege to work in
good firm during my practicum period. During my practicum period, |
got a lot of opportunity in designing. Here | learnt to work as a team
along with other staff members and the architects themselves. Site
visits also taught about construction processes and I learnt a lot about
new building materials and design idea. In my view architecture would
have been incomplete if it weren't for this period of practicum. Overall it
helped me to learn about the real world of architecture, adding a new
dimension in me.
Thank You!!!
