TOOTHED CUTTING TOOL
MACHINE SHOP THEORY INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
ME-225
AY: 2022-2023
I. INTRODUCTION
A Hacksaw Blade or also known "toothed cutting tool." built primarily and

originally for cutting metal. Typically, a bow saw is used to cut wood and is the corresponding

saw.

The majority of hacksaws are hand saws with a walking frame in the shape of a C that

keeps a blade under tension. These hacksaws feature pins on the handle, which is often a pistol

grip, for fastening a thin disposable blade. To fit blades of various sizes, the frames may also be

movable. The thin blade is tensioned using a screw or another device.

In order to produce cutting action on either the push or pull stroke, the blade of

hacksaws, like most frame saws, can be positioned with the teeth pointing either toward or away

from the handle. Hacksaw blades are often oriented to face forward while cutting horizontally

downward while holding work in a bench vise.

II. PURPOSE / USES

A hacksaw is most frequently used to cut through plastic and metal. Wood, bone, and

other hard materials are used in addition. While cutting these materials with this tool, the

hacksaw moves on the teeth in an outward and away motion, producing an even and straight

cut; there is never a need to go back. For convenience's sake, hacksaw blades for PVC pipe

are always positioned upside down so they can be dragged toward the material rather than lifted

upward.

The blade should be approximately 25 cm (Standard size) long. If you require a longer

blade, fasten two saw blades together in a single frame using screws that are inserted at an

angle.
