THE ESSENCE: Why celebrate
Christmas?
(Christmas is done and here we are, meeting another year again. But. before we leave this year, feel free to browse
life and search for certainty. This was what I did.)
These past days, I felt like a sloth in blogging my life and anything about what I had learned. Perhaps, it's all because
of the very soothing, relaxing and hugging climate which we've all missed, especially those who live near the equator
(like us). But, let me share this lesson which I think is worthy to be professed -- a special thing that marked my 2010
Christmas as the most challenging, enlightening and, perhaps, sentimental (haha).
I wondered why Christmas was happening, knowing that Dec. 25 wasn't assured enough to be the birth of Christ. So,
I read the Bible, one night before the day came. And, I didn't see any particular date or sign of month but I just read
John 3:16.
As I was rereading it, this special thing popped me, making me realize that yes, Christmas should be celebrated.
For instance, we celebrate Independence Day despite the fact that we claim we're free, everyday in our life. This is
because we know that our heroes freed us long before we started to celebrate so. We give special day to it, even
though (in the case of Philippines), that certain date is still debatable.
Moreover, we celebrate our special day too, right? Though we should do it everyday as long as we live. It is not
directly written in the Bible but God teaches us to be thankful for our life.
Same as true with Christmas. We believe that we celebrate the birth of our Savior everyday; but giving a day of
emphasis to it is also a must. Jesus is far more important that any thing, so as His birthday- the very special day that
God taught us the 3 essences of John 3:16:
For God so love the world - LOVE
That He gave His only Begotten Son- GIVE
and so, whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life- FORGIVE
Therefore, is it a sin to celebrate Jesus' life? To spare a day just for Him? Of course, it's not, though celebrating it
everyday is given. If you don't want Dec. 25, then celebrate it anytime you want to! Anyway, exact date does not
matter but the essence, itself.
(I beg, do not forbid anyone who wants to celebrate Christ.)
How blessed I am for celebrating Christmas- the birth of my Lord and Savior. How blessed I am because I believe
that Jesus is precious and a significant part of me, including commemorating His birthday.
I love you Jesus and thank you for saving me. Albeit, Christmas to you had been a big challenge, you did it for me
and for all of us.
For these, I would like to remind everyone of the real value of Christmas; so please do not replace Christ's name with
X, as in X-MAS, because its essence is effaced by doing such.
This is the real deed of a real Christian- believing that Christ is ABOVE ALL.
