some are individual works. The activities held inside the
Mindoro State University Main Campus. Professors and
facilitators are the one are assigned to ensure that
everyone is attending the summer class.

The students are instructed and taught of new ideas,

learning, and knowledge. This will help the students to
participate and blend in with other students for them to
communicate naturally. Moreover, this method of teachings
are helpful as it helps the students to have an
experience in farming.

This is important to students as it can gives additional

information through listening, watching and following
those professionals, speakers and leaders especially, to
those professors in charge in summer class and to those
individuals who acts as facilitators.

IV. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This presents the related literature bearing on the

activities on this subject.

Tractor Driving

Agriculture in these days used and adapt high technology.

Tools and equipment lies with the innovative manner to
provide comfort, ease and less laborious. Farm owners
experienced cost savings, as it lessen the labor cost.

As stated by Yao, 2009; Lou and Qiu, 2021, farmers using

agricultural machinery can significantly reduced labor
costs. One of the example of machinery used in farming is
the tractor, it can be used for such a long time and can
be managed by single person just sitting and using his
hands and feet comfortably. It is much comfortable than
the usual hand tractor. Moreover, it saves time, as it
can function and work around the rice field in just a
short period of time.

Silage Making

Silage is a type of fodder made from green foliage crops

which have been preserved by fermentation to the point of
acidification. It can be fed to cattle, sheep, and other
such ruminants.

Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum) is an important

source for manufacturing bio-fuel and animal feed. It is
widely cultivated for ruminant feed in tropical and
subtropical regions because of its short growth cycle,
high biomass, and strong adaptability (Tao et al., 2021).
Furthermore, silages are important as it is a source of
nutrients and carbohydrates.

UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Block) Making

UMMB is a readily available source of energy, protein and

minerals for dairy animals. Supplementing an animal with
this provides adequate quantity of nutrients and slow
indigestion of urea leads to efficient microbial protein
production and improved indigestibility.

Feeding of urea molasses mineral block (UMMB) has shown

promising results of improving the nutrients utilization
and also the productivity of animals in laboratory
trials (Tanwar et al. 2013). It also gives energy or heat,
minerals and protein needed by animals to increase milk
production. It contains elements such as calcium,
phosphorous, iodine, zinc, copper and other minerals that
are not naturally found in grass. These minerals are
important for growth, reproduction and milk production.

Soil Sampling

soil-sampling event can be useful in monitoring changes

in soil fertility, developing fertilizer recommendations,
and improving on-farm nutrient efficiency. Regardless of
the particular soil-sampling program, soil sampling using
a consistent, well-conducted, and organized approach will
lead to the most usable and informative soil test results.
V. DISCUSSION

Identifying Agricultural farm tools and equipment

sharpens the mind of the students through memorizing and
distinguishing its purpose and its function in farm.
Aside from memorizing, upon doing the activities in this
subject, students are able to used the farm tools and
equipment properly and accordingly.

On the second day of summer class, the students are able

to prepared a Soil bed. It honed the skills of
individuals in communicating and unification in making
work done in a given time. This implies success on kills
and in students well-being. The third day is about
cleaning and removal of unwanted plants under the
Calamansi Trees. There are partners who are assigned in
every Calamansi trees, the goal is to removed the weeds
on all of the Calamansi trees planted on the given area.
Though the process is tiring the students succeed and did
an amazing part on this activity.

The fourth day is the moving exam where the students

identified the farm tools and equipment correctly. The
fifth day is about 6 system of planting wherein it is a
success. The students on the 6th day of class accomplished
to sterilized soil and placed it on a seedling tray and
planted a seeds onto it.

On the same day, the students estimated the weight of the

animals by its heart girth and body length. The goat’s
age is determined by examining the teeth of the goat.
Once the teeth have fully break out from the gum the goat
is 1 years old then, two pairs of teeth means two years
old, three pairs means three years old. The 13th day of
class there are professionals who are invited to instruct
the soil sampling and the computation for fertilizer.

As a student, I learned a lot on the discussion and by

their guidance that leads us to better understand the
soil. On the day of grafting, at first there are some
mistakes and error yet the activity ends well leaving us
lessons and learning's that will be used in future
purposes. The day of driving the tractor and hand tractor
is the most challenging as it gives knowledge on the
function of machines and technologies in the farm. The
educational tour helps students assimilate new
understandings and gained wisdom. It feels like an
academic attainment, full of lessons and insights. The
tour was worth it and full of adventures. The whole days
time.
VI. SUMMARY

The summer class “Skills and Development” taught students

a lot of things. This is a good way of teaching the
students to learn new things, acknowledge and appreciate
the benefits of Agriculture in animals and crops as well
as on human beings. This summer class encourage my inner
self to study smart and work harder for better results.
This inspires a student to not dream but to work for it,
act with kindness in nature. This summer class promotes
the goodness and advantage of Agriculture in our lives,
this can be a source of income, provides food, employment
and occupation. This summer class taught us new
experiences that would grow in the future. From planting
to transplanting to bedding to growing and up to
harvesting, there are lots of things to consider. There
are different learnings from growing crops to taking care
of animals and from listening to discussios and
application of what we learned in real life.
VII. CONCLUSION

Based on what I experienced on summer class, the

conclusions that come up upon attending the summer class
are the following :
1. The students learned something if they do something
2. The students skills and abilities improved as time
goes by.
3. The students are able to analyse the soil.
4. The lessons and activities are interesting and it
gives enjoyment to students.
5. The work can be easily done when working together.

This subject taught us lots of things that are important

in studying Agriculture and applicable in the field of
work. Skills and Development improved individuals
abilities and skills on farming, identifying problems,
materials and age of animals together with its weight.

As an agriculture student, I feel proud and amazed at the

same time since I experienced this kind of education
wherein, I gained knowledge and wisdom from different
situations and activities and to all the speakers in
every farm. I really recommend this course to every
students as it gives not just knowledge as well as the
feeling of achieving something. It does something onto
myself and it really did honed one’s ability
successfully.
VIII. Problems Encountered

This presents the problems in the farm that the students

encountered while working and learning.

Weather

The weather is commonly the problem that the students

encountered while doing the activities outside. Due to
heavy rains and sudden rain drops the work that should be
done at a given time is delayed.

Lack of tools and equipment

It will take time to finish an activity or work if the

farm tools and equipment is lacking. It will result to
borrowing of tools and equipment to other groups and the
work takes too long. In addition, if the borrower is not
a keeper, there is a possibility of false impression and
presence of problems might occur.

Individuals Interest

This can be a good thing but in some cases, it hinders

the interest of the majority. Once an individual doesn’t
have interest on doing something that person will not
participate and let others do the work. Yet, this subject
improved one’s character and changed those negative
characteristic of a person into a positive. In addition,
Skills and Development enhanced students critical
thinking to be a holistic one.
IX. RECOMMENDATIONS

This contains recommendations and suggestions on the

subject Skills and Development .

1. Consider the weather before starting an activity is a

must to do. It is to avoid delays and unfinished task.

2. The unity in the students was shown while performing

the activities, it just need to maintain.

3. The students should treasure and remember the lessons

taught to them as it important and can be used in the
field of work.

As a student taking course Bachelor of Science in

Agriculture, I recommend the students to invest their
time on studying smarter and working harder in order to
accomplish something and to be able to harvest success.
