Tutorial 2.

1 (Complex Integral/Line integral)

1. Evaluate ∫𝑐(𝑥 2 − 𝑖𝑦 2 )𝑑𝑧,where 𝑐 is the parabola 𝑦 = 2𝑥 2 from (1, 2) to (2, 8).

2. Evaluate ∫𝐶 Re(𝑧) 𝑑𝑧 where 𝐶 is the shortest path from (1 + 𝑖) to (3 + 2𝑖).
3. Evaluate ∫𝐶 𝑧̅𝑑𝑧, where (a) C is the line from 𝑧 = 1 − 𝑖 to 𝑧 = 3 + 2𝑖 along the straight

5. Find the value of ∫0 (𝑧̅)2 𝑑𝑧, along the real axis from 0 to 2 and then vertically from 2
to 2 + 𝑖 . Also compare your answer by evaluating along the shortest path joining the
end points. (Justify!)
6. Evaluate ∮𝐶|𝑧|2 𝑑𝑧 where 𝐶 is the boundary of the square with vertices 0, 1, 1 + 𝑖, 𝑖.
7. Evaluate ∫𝑐𝑧̅𝑑𝑧, where 𝑐 is right half of the circle |𝑧| = 2 from 𝑧 = −2𝑖 to 𝑧 = 2𝑖.
1+𝑖 𝑖
8. Show that for every path between the limits ∫0 (2 + 𝑧)2 𝑑𝑧 = − 3.
9. Evaluate ∮𝐶 ln(𝑧) 𝑑𝑧, where 𝐶 is the unit circle |𝑧| = 1.

10. Prove that ∫𝐶 𝑧 𝑑𝑧 = ±𝜋𝑖 according to 𝐶 is the semi circular arc |𝑧| = 1 above or below
the real axis.
2+𝑖
11. Evaluate ∫1−𝑖 (2𝑥 + 𝑖𝑦 + 1)𝑑𝑧, along
a. along the straight line joining the end points.
b. along the curve 𝑥 = 𝑡 + 1, 𝑦 = 2𝑡 2 − 1.
