3. Explain the importance of nonverbal cues in verbal communication?
The importance of nonverbal communication cues—the way you listen, look, move, and
react—tell the person you're communicating with whether or not you care, if you're being
truthful, and how well you're listening. When your nonverbal signals match up with the words
you're saying, they increase trust, clarity, and rapport.
4. Choose two (2) models of communication and discussed it comprehensively in 5 – 8 sentences. (10
pts each) (20 pts.)
Interactive Model
The interactive model of communication is a two – way exchange between the sender and the
receiver. There are two examples under the interactive model of communication which is the
Schramm Model 1 (1954) and White Model of interactive communication (1960).
The Schramm model 1 of communication emphasized the field of experience. It stated that a
communication only exists if and only if there is an overlap of the field of experience between
the speaker and listener.
The other model called White Model of communication has an element of feedback. It asserted
that communication is continuous without beginning or end. It asserts that communication
starts from a thought, then symbolizing it using figures or characters, expressing it via verbal
or non-verbal cues then transmit it through proper channels to the receiver. Then, the receiver
decodes the messages, and determine how to feedback on the message, and monitoring the
responses back to the sender on how he thought about the feedback and the process begins
again without end.
Transactional Model
The transactional model of communication is an upgrade of the interactive model. While,
interactive model of communication shows the relationship between the sender and the receiver
it does not emphasize that there is simultaneous and dynamic nature of communication. It is
important to note that in Wood’s transaction model of communication that both communicators
are both sender and receiver of information and while having a shared field of experience and
waiting for their turn to speak or listen, a communicator can interpret non – verbal cues the
other communicator shows each other.
This means that the transactional shows that communication is not only happening when
Communicator A is speaking and Communicator B is listening. While, Communicator B is
listening he interprets the feedback of Communicator A from their conversation by interpreting
non – verbal cues and the same goes to Communicator A.
Lastly, the model is a dynamic one because it depends on the communicators for the outcome
of the communication.
