reactions:

Equation Balanced Equation

Xe + F2 = XeF6 Xe + 3F2 → XeF6
MnS + HCl = H2S + MnCl2 MnS + 2HCl → H2S + MnCl2

CaC2 + H2O = Ca(OH)2 + C2H2 CaC2 + 2H2O → Ca(OH)2 + C2H2

ClO2 + H2O = HClO2 + HClO3 2ClO2 + H2O → HClO2 + HClO3
CuSO4 + KCN = Cu(CN)2 + K2SO4 CuSO4 + 2KCN → Cu(CN)2 + K2SO4

3- For each of the following compounds, determine the

moles of compound present for 186.3 grams of the
compound.

a) The chemical formula for topaz is Al2SiO4F4. How

many moles of topaz are in 186.3 grams?
Given,

The chemical formula of Topaz = Al2SiO4F4

Mass of Topaz = 186.3 g

Let’s calculate the Molar Mass of Topaz:

(27 X 2) + 28 + (16 X 4) + (19 X 4) = 222 g/mol

Number of moles of Topaz is given by:

Number of moles of Topaz = Mass of Topaz / Molar

Mass of Topaz

= 186.3 g / 222 g/mol

= 0.84 moles

b) The chemical formula for feldspar is K2Al2Si6O16.

How many moles of feldspar are in 186.3 grams?

The chemical formula of feldspar = K2Al2Si6O16

Mass of feldspar = 186.3 g

Molar Mass of feldspar = 595.5 g / mol

Number of moles of feldspar = Mass of feldspar / Molar

Mass of feldspar

= 186.3 g / 595.5 g/mol

= .30 moles

c) The chemical formula for malachite is

Cu₂(OH)₂CO₃. How many moles of malachite are in
186.3 grams?

The chemical formula of malachite = Cu₂(OH)₂CO₃

Mass of malachite = 186.3 g

Molar Mass of malachite = 399.7 g / mol

Number of moles of malachite = Mass of malachite /

Molar Mass of malachite

= 399.7 g / 186.3 g/mol

= 2.15 moles

4- a)
Volume = 1L
Molar mass = 222 g/mol
Molarity = 0.5 N
Moles = x
Moles = molarity X Volume
= 0.5 N X 1L
= 0.5 moles
Mass of compound = moles X molar mass
= 0.5 N X 222 g/mol
= 111 g

b)
Volume = 1L
Molar mass = 595.5 g/mol
Molarity = 0.5 N
Moles = x
Moles = molarity X Volume
= 0.5 N X 1L
= 0.5 moles
Mass of compound = moles X molar mass
= 0.5 N X 595.5 g/mol
= 297.75 g

c)
Volume = 1L
Molar mass = 399.7 g/mol
Molarity = 0.5 N
Moles = x
Moles = molarity X Volume
= 0.5 N X 1L
= 0.5 moles
Mass of compound = moles X molar mass
= 0.5 N X 399.7 g/mol
= 199.85 g
