Session Plan

The document outlines a session plan for servicing starting systems. It includes three learning outcomes: testing starting system components and identifying faults, disassembling starters, and repairing/replacing and assembling starter components/parts. The plan details three activities to achieve the first learning outcome, including identifying starting system components, measuring voltages/currents/resistances, and conducting starting system component failure analysis.

Session Plan

Sector : Automotive
Qualification : Automotive Servicing NC II
Unit of Competency : Service Starting System
Module Title : Servicing Starting System

Learning Outcomes:
Learning Outcome 1: Test starting system components and identify faults
Learning Outcome 2: Disassemble starter
Learning Outcome 3: Repair/replace and assemble starter components/parts

A. INTRODUCTION
The starting system is a combination of mechanical and electrical parts that work together to start the engine. A technician must be
aware of the principles surrounding the starting system in order to identify the source of the problem.

In this module you will learn how to test and repair starting system/direct current motors appropriate to vehicles. You will be
performing activities to develop your skill in testing starting system components/parts and identify faults, disassemble starter,
repair/replace parts and assemble starter components.

You will also review underpinning knowledge such as electrical principles, repair procedures, electrical measuring and testing
procedures and vehicle safety requirements.

After doing the learning activities in this learner’s guide you will be assessed by your facilitator/instructor on repairing starting system
and direct current motors.
